A great discussion here, and it seems like the questions have mostly been answered. One thing I wanted to add is that if you end up going ahead with a gender-inclusive cast, make sure you get permission from the publisher/the Golding estate. Oftentimes, playwrights are fine with swapping the gender of ...

Does anyone know what the differences are between the original version of Marian, or the True Tale of Robin Hood and the Teen edition? ------------------------------ Christopher Hamilton Drama Teacher Kamiakin High School WA ------------------------------

I think all of the plays that involve seafaring and shipwrecks are in play here, like The Tempest, Twelfth Night, and Comedy of Errors. However, my brain keeps coming back to As You Like It. Why run off to the forest when you can run n off to the sea? Maybe the good duke's merry band could be pirates? ...

We basically did what Ken did here. For some reason, I cannot find a picture of our final product, but here is one of our three elephants as a work in progress. ------------------------------ Christopher Hamilton Drama Teacher Kamiakin High School WA ------------------------------

It depends on if you mean track order or physical place. I know that when we did it (the high school edition), it took the place of the song "Two Men in my Life", which was I think the 5th song on the Broadway cast album. It's hard for me to remember, but I believe it takes place at old Edward's home, ...

Ok, here are a few more suggestions: Someone already mentioned A Simpler Time (Playscripts). This is a really fun collection of plays all by different playwrights that actually work surprisingly well together into a fun comedic piece. We had a good time with this one, and I think would work well with ...

Hey all. Like some of you, in addition to my theatre duties, I also teach English classes. For our sophomores, the Shakespeare play we read is Julius Caesar (not my favorite of the bard's, but it's what I got). Because plays are meant to be seen, heard, and performed, not simply read, I always incorporate ...

So, here was our build. I got the cardboard cut-out of the cannon from Amazon, I think. Mounted it on a flat on top of a rolling platform. Behind the flat, we put a wide board and reinforced it so our Edward Bloom (different actor pictured here, lol) could safely and comfortably lay down on it if he ...

My favorite is probably The Man Who Came to Dinner. It is so much fun. There are a lot of complex moving parts and it requires a big box set, but we were able to pull it off, and our students had a BLAST. ------------------------------ Christopher Hamilton Drama Teacher Kamiakin High School WA ---- ...

We did it 4 years ago, and it was probably our most successful show ever. The story is great, and our audience really connected with it. I echo everything Ken said, but I will add that if you have the capacity to use projections, then I highly recommend the projections they have available for you to ...

I can't remember if it works on Chromebooks or not, but look into Universal Soundboard. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of a Q-Lab, but works well for simple stuff, and it's free. ------------------------------ Christopher Hamilton Drama Teacher Kamiakin High School WA ---------------------- ...

I was wondering if anyone out there has produced (or attempted to produce) She Kills Monsters in a conservative area and what the reaction was. I am thinking of proposing it for next year, but I expect there may be some push-back from admin, the school board, and/or the community. If I do propose it, ...

If you're looking for a fun one-off lesson for Shakespeare during your Shakespeare week, I would recommend Shakespearian Insults! I give my students this sheet, and they have to look up the definitions of many of the insults using Google or a Shakespeare Lexicon or Shakespeare Glossary (be careful here, ...

Our extra-curricular pay is based on what "tier" our job is, and how many years of experience we have doing it. The Drama contract is in the lowest tier. i.e., every coach and assistant coach makes more than me. This year, my stipend is $4, 365 spread out over 12 paychecks. We produce 3 productions a ...

We also did A Simpler Time (our last production before the pandemic hit) and it was a lot of fun. Though I used it as a student-led piece. Each of the individual one-acts were directed by students. Other titles you should check out if you haven't already: Radium Girls Trap (Stephen Gregg) -------- ...
