I second what Jeff said--writing by hand. Good old-fashioned flashcards don't work for everyone, but they do work for some. Often the actual act of making the flashcards goes a long way, even before using the flashcards. I do sympathize with the sentiment behind the original post. Current students have ...

Looking for a vignette-y musical that would be good for a group of 7th and 8th graders with intermediate (not advanced) skills/experience. Need something that has some scenes with at least *SOME* substance and flexible casting (i.e. show is not dependent having one or two strong leads; possibly something ...

Haha. Timing. For me, it's that we just concluded our big musical and I need that next big project. Are you referring to the lesson plan called "I Want to Be a Producer"? ------------------------------ Ryan Moore Theatre Teacher and Forensics Coach West Bloomfield MI ------------------------------

Has any one ever done an assignment where students take existing popular music and treat it as a song in a jukebox musical? I'm toying with a project in which they write an original scene that leads into their chosen song and then perform it is if it's a musical theatre piece. Looking to see if there ...

The site has can be reconfigured, and I can no longer find the video examples of student work. For instance, now when I click on view student work>Theatre>Performing:Theatre, I can see the written assignment and notes about "keep an eye on student _____....," but keep an eye where? There used to be videos ...

My recommendation is start with active learning rather than front-loading them too much with information. Games, improv, etc. I'm saying there isn't a place for the topics you're proposing, but they can go hand in hand. I find that starting with movement activities (generally culminating with a pantomime) ...

A long time ago, I remember using the music of Edward Elgar as incidental music for Earnest. I can't recall the particular tracks, but I remember it feeling appropriately British and period-accurate. Plus, pulling from a single composer gives a sense of cohesion. Best of luck. ------------------------------ ...

What are your favorite vignette plays? Could include monologues, small group scenes, or a combination. 7th and 8th grade actors--beginning level class. Looking for a piece with discrete scenes that could be rehearsed largely separately, but can be presented together as something that's thematically cohesive. ...

Has anyone done Footloose Youth Edition? Considering it for my seventh and eighth graders and would love to hear from those who have done it. Among the things I'm wondering about--how does it differ from the full show?  (I assume content is cleaned up?)  Also, I've mostly done MTI Jr. shows in the ...
