My recommendation is start with active learning rather than front-loading them too much with information. Games, improv, etc. I'm saying there isn't a place for the topics you're proposing, but they can go hand in hand. I find that starting with movement activities (generally culminating with a pantomime) ...

A long time ago, I remember using the music of Edward Elgar as incidental music for Earnest. I can't recall the particular tracks, but I remember it feeling appropriately British and period-accurate. Plus, pulling from a single composer gives a sense of cohesion. Best of luck. ------------------------------ ...

What are your favorite vignette plays? Could include monologues, small group scenes, or a combination. 7th and 8th grade actors--beginning level class. Looking for a piece with discrete scenes that could be rehearsed largely separately, but can be presented together as something that's thematically cohesive. ...

If Standard 6 is included, it's not on the NCCAS website.   The above is page 5 of 10 of the PDF, standard 5. Page 6 of 10 is Standard 7. ------------------------------ Ryan Moore Theatre Teacher and Forensics Coach MI ------------------------------

Has anyone done Footloose Youth Edition? Considering it for my seventh and eighth graders and would love to hear from those who have done it. Among the things I'm wondering about--how does it differ from the full show?  (I assume content is cleaned up?)  Also, I've mostly done MTI Jr. shows in the ...

Anyone know of good videos of two-person scenes performed virtually (on zoom or similar platform)? I'm mostly interested in examples for which the setting is not virtual (i.e. per the script the characters are in the same room, but circumstances do not allow the actors to be in the same space). - ...

Great thread.  Thanks for initiating it.  A lot of my thoughts have been expressed, but here's a feeling I've had for a while: I wish there were more viable plays for middle school aged actors that were about a wider array of topics than being "in school." (I'm particularly burned out on plays about ...

I swear I registered this week, but when I tried to get into the app this morning, it said I was mot registered. (I had the registration in my cart and everything—maybe there was a button to finalize things that I missed? Didn’t think anything about it until today because I figured I was all set). So, ...

Would love to hear from some EdTAers who are feeling competent and brave in their remote teaching (those are qualities that are hard to come by, but I know this is the group to find them in!) I wonder if anyone would be willing to share their rough sequence/flow for their online class periods ...

Hoping this message is read by someone more computer-savvy than I-- My question is not, strictly speaking, directly related to theatre ed, but it is for theatre use (community theatre), and the people in this group know lots of stuff that I don't know and are very generous about sharing. ...

Everyone is saying a lot of great things in response to this, and, truly, we've all been there (and--just in my unscientific observation--there does seem to be a creeping societal attitude of entitlement of "lead role or not worth my time," even from kids who have NO experience). I also think, though, ...
