LOL, Cassy -- we do seem to have very similar taste! I THINK I'm going to have enough guys -- my fingers are crossing so hard. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ ------------------------------

I have decided on "Miss Holmes" as our spring production. Would appreciate any resources or tips anyone could give me. Am planning to do it simply, in a black box space, with just the barest of sets. Anyone have recordings of the accurate pronunciation of the German lines, for examples? Costume pieces ...

There are some great scenes in "Antigone, Presented by the Girls of St. Catherine's" by Madhuri Shekar, available on the New Play Exchange. I might have some scenes pulled from it -- message me if you'd like me to send/share. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ -------------------------- ...

I second "Snow Angel" -- fantastic script. The extremely popular "Almost, Maine." Also, "Seven Keys to Baldpate" takes place during a winter storm -- it's in the public domain, too, so no barriers to adapting the script to fit your group. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ ------------- ...

Hello! Our black box theater space was renovated over the summer, and there were some issues with the installation of the floor. Our school's facilities department, which has never been a fan of the new floor as designed (masonite surface over 2 layers of tongue and groove plywood) is advocating for ...

Hello, esteemed colleagues! I am considering trying to do a Students Playwriting Festival for our spring Upper School production. My idea is that I would work with students writers after the fall theater production closes in early November so that we have some short plays drafted by the time we usually ...

That's a great question, Cassy. Mostly the class is intended as a way to include Dance in the Middle School curriculum. Last year, not enough middle school students chose Dance as part of their rotating elective program, and the Middle School admin has decided to remove student choice from this program ...

Thank you so much for your responses, Desi, Timothy, Kirsti, Tasha, and Mindi! Lots of good stuff here. I have heard of Laban but have never really dug into it -- I am definitely intrigued by what you wrote, Mindi. Lots of other good ideas here too -- thanks so much especially to Desi for such a detailed ...

A movement class for all 6th graders is being added to our program for next year. Our new dance teacher (the only other member of my department) will be teaching, but I'd like to offer some guidance if I can. The class is required, so everyone will be taking it regardless of interest, in two week chunks. ...

Hello! I'm looking for some recommendations. I teach all of the 8th graders for a quarter of the year -- they don't choose to take theater, and many of them wouldn't if they had the choice. Pre-COVID, I used a different short Shakespeare script with each group, and we did a full performance at the end ...

"The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" was our spring production, and it was very successful. It's a beautiful story, and although I didn't end up having any actors missing performances due to COVID, the double-casting built into the show gave me some peace of mind. I have a set of Edward doll props ...

I am in rehearsals for "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." The original production cast was 2M 2F, so there's doubling built in. We're doing it with 13, and almost everyone has two parts in addition to other group roles. It's a lovely story with some strong dramatic scenes as well as some lightness ...

Beginning work on our spring production of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" -- auditions are this week. Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom for me? Sources for rabbit props? Any help much appreciated -- feeling a little less prepared than usual heading into this one. Thank you in ...

"Trap" is great -- it was our spring 2020 production and translated well to video, but I think it would be AMAZING live. "Trap" playwright Stephen Gregg also has a new playing coming out called "Ghostlight" which is less scary, but still has Halloween-like material, and also has great roles for girls. ...

This one looks really interesting -- setting it in the Flint water crisis. https://www.youthplays.com/play/enemy-flint-by-diana-burbano-486 Thia Stockmann, a bright young medical student, has discovered her hometown's water supply has been poisoned. Her data, her personality and her determination ...

Thank you for this post -- your wish list is my wish list. I too am interested in developing new approaches to theater programming at our school and would love to talk more about this. I also completely understand that after working on "Anon(ymous)" (I directed it in 2018), it's a challenge to find another ...

I did not direct any productions this year, just a few video pieces for a revue that was otherwise put together by the music department. Many of my experienced actors chose to be fully virtual this year, and there just didn't seem to be much interest in doing virtual theater after the enormous effort ...
