Hello! I am in my 30th year at a small independent school. I started out as a full-time Middle and Upper School English teacher who also directed two Upper School plays per year, with a set designer / tech director from the outside. I am now full-time theater teacher 7-12, still directing two shows per ...

I'm sorry for such a late reply. I no longer have the rabbits -- they went on to Indiana for a production there. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ ------------------------------

I think you've already done "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940," but that's one. The Mary Zimmerman "Arabian Nights" has lots of music (but I think you've done another version of "Arabian Nights"). There's a small amount of music in my adaptation of "The Two Princesses of Bamarre." I've never directed ...

There's a great one act by Molnar called "The President" which definitely is fast-paced and a tour-de-force for a male lead. You could pair it with something else for a full-length evening. Or "Seven Keys to Baldpate" is a full length in the public domain, so you could cut it any way you want. --- ...

I'm directing "Miss Holmes" and we open in April in New Jersey. Was hoping to use TDF but there isn't enough lead time to use their Mail Order pulling service, which is what I probably need. Any recommendations for places I could rent from? Location doesn't matter as long as they'll ship and are reliable. ...

LOL, Cassy -- we do seem to have very similar taste! I THINK I'm going to have enough guys -- my fingers are crossing so hard. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ ------------------------------

I have decided on "Miss Holmes" as our spring production. Would appreciate any resources or tips anyone could give me. Am planning to do it simply, in a black box space, with just the barest of sets. Anyone have recordings of the accurate pronunciation of the German lines, for examples? Costume pieces ...

There are some great scenes in "Antigone, Presented by the Girls of St. Catherine's" by Madhuri Shekar, available on the New Play Exchange. I might have some scenes pulled from it -- message me if you'd like me to send/share. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ -------------------------- ...

I second "Snow Angel" -- fantastic script. The extremely popular "Almost, Maine." Also, "Seven Keys to Baldpate" takes place during a winter storm -- it's in the public domain, too, so no barriers to adapting the script to fit your group. ------------------------------ Cora Turlish NJ ------------- ...

Hello! Our black box theater space was renovated over the summer, and there were some issues with the installation of the floor. Our school's facilities department, which has never been a fan of the new floor as designed (masonite surface over 2 layers of tongue and groove plywood) is advocating for ...

Hello, esteemed colleagues! I am considering trying to do a Students Playwriting Festival for our spring Upper School production. My idea is that I would work with students writers after the fall theater production closes in early November so that we have some short plays drafted by the time we usually ...

That's a great question, Cassy. Mostly the class is intended as a way to include Dance in the Middle School curriculum. Last year, not enough middle school students chose Dance as part of their rotating elective program, and the Middle School admin has decided to remove student choice from this program ...

Thank you so much for your responses, Desi, Timothy, Kirsti, Tasha, and Mindi! Lots of good stuff here. I have heard of Laban but have never really dug into it -- I am definitely intrigued by what you wrote, Mindi. Lots of other good ideas here too -- thanks so much especially to Desi for such a detailed ...

A movement class for all 6th graders is being added to our program for next year. Our new dance teacher (the only other member of my department) will be teaching, but I'd like to offer some guidance if I can. The class is required, so everyone will be taking it regardless of interest, in two week chunks. ...

Hello! I'm looking for some recommendations. I teach all of the 8th graders for a quarter of the year -- they don't choose to take theater, and many of them wouldn't if they had the choice. Pre-COVID, I used a different short Shakespeare script with each group, and we did a full performance at the end ...

"The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" was our spring production, and it was very successful. It's a beautiful story, and although I didn't end up having any actors missing performances due to COVID, the double-casting built into the show gave me some peace of mind. I have a set of Edward doll props ...
