When I started teaching 29 years ago, I was given multiple extracurricular tasks to do such as yearbook and cheerleading, although I had no experience. I had multiple preps and produced 2 plays, one being a musical, and did Thespians on top of that. At a different school now I have 3 preps which is still ...

I have theater 2-4 in one class. My seniors direct 1-Act plays, not just scenes. The class does all the production work because I do not have a tech class. At the beginning of the year, they suggest the units they want to cover after I review some of the standards. For example, for theatre history, some ...

We did Midsummer using a steampunk set design and costuming. It was great fun for our costume crew. They created a lot of the costuming themselves because steampunk is pretty popular; they also knew where to shop locally. They did a lot of thrift shopping, and we ordered some things on Amazon. They also ...

I have a small stage with no backstage, just a small green room and a back hall. I only have 3 girls. Is this doable for us? I've wanted to do it, but lacked 5 boys. Now I have 10 who all want to act. ------------------------------ Amy Sando Douglas High School NV ------------------------------

Have you considered a comedy? Game of Tiaras or the Suessafication of Romeo and Juliet were great crowd pleasers and my cast loved doing them. You only need the 5 boys for the 2 lovers, Oberon bottom and the king. All others can be played by girls. I've done the play twice - once set at an 80s prom and one with a Steampunk setting. It's so fun. I used the script from 90 Minute Shakespeare. I recently saw a college production where they used ...

I start every class with 20 minutes of fun, whole-class games on stage. I then go some meditative and mindfulness breathing with a full-body scan, which can take up another 10 minutes. I would also think they could do several improv-type scenes with whichever unit you are on. I also do a lot of activities ...

Not all of my thespians need to audition, but all of them need to work on at least 1 production to maintain their thespian status. I have no problems finding design and tech people if it's a requirement. This has freed up so much of my time to focus on artistic directing, which is my passion and talent. ...
