It sounds like you have a growing dept. I usually double anything with 15 lines (text or sung) or more to maximize parts if helpful... I also doubled the escapologist and acrobat, Phelps, even Sergei cause I had two newer theater students in that role... PS Also on everyone's off nights for those smaller ...

I have only produced Lockdown while back which felt about 45 min in length. Plus not really about survivor stories. I have not read all these plays fully, but my guess is they might have something your student would be excited about since there are multiple plays to pull from etc: https://www.enoughplays.com/plays. ...

Hi Cynthia! I do think that the suggestions you already received have been great. An unpainted piece of muslin to your specs may really be the cheapest, highest quality solution. I have also grommeted and had success using canvas drop cloths from Home Depot as a cheaper cyc in a pinch. I think the biggest ...

I recommend this play often and it's a bit older but soooo good and if memory serves has exactly 6 females featured throughout the play... Kindertransport by Diane Samuels. One male part originally as well, but I feel that is a non-binary role anyways... ------------------------------ Colleen Mylott ...

I second the vote for FlipGrid. I have found it just the easiest platform for students being able to quickly film any audition material without the pain of student's having to figure out how to upload or send/share big heavy digital files to even a shared drive or dropbox. It eliminates those steps and ...

I am a huge fan of Kindertransport by Diane Samuels. 5 great female roles. There is a 6th character the Ratcatcher/Train Agent/ etc... that perhaps could be adjusted to give you your 6 roles... Thanks! ------------------------------ Colleen Mylott Secondary Theatre Teacher Peak to Peak Charter ...

I am a big fan of a play I was in long ago and directed for a HS group. It's called Kindertransport and there is only one scripted male role and I think the casting could be entirely female if needed. I like the script because all of the female roles are magnificently written and all have an arc. I too ...

I had seen reviews like yours where it kicked out after only a couple of uses. Sorry to hear that. That sounds like no fun at all... Can I ask did you use regular ice or dry ice? It lasted my whole run and many rehearsals with dry ice... Not sure if that is a useful variable/difference. Could be just ...

I had the same questions with my last show. Did a bunch of research and ended up buying a Mister Cool Fog Machine (about $300) and running it with dry ice. It produced a ton of low hanging fog whenever needed and no alarms were triggered. I think the dry ice is worth grabbing at a grocery store as it ...

Hi Everyone! I am a big believer in knowledge sharing especially since we had so much fun working on Puffs. I think the picture that Joseph posted in October was much more elegant in terms of the look of those wands. Here is the cheap way we were able to craft wands that lit up in case helpful. ...

I cast two female actors to play Audrey II kinda like a rock duo and it was SUPER fun. In most cases we were able to leave the music as is and they just jumped up an octave. We may have changed the key of one song... Can't remember... Here is a couple of pictures in case helpful... I kinda loved the ...

Personally, I like Midsummer. The 4 lovers and the rude mechs help an audience hook in just in terms of themes and great characters. I am also a fan of As You Like It as I think it's such a charming show about love with one of my favorite heroines. My third favorite is 12th Night as I like the gender ...

Great show! I expanded the cast to a bunch of fighting folk. Farrah also had back up fairies. The evil cheerleaders had a back up posse etc. For weaponry the cheapest functional thing I could find was wooden training weapons on this site. https://www.medievalcollectibles.com/product/wooden-excalibur-sword/ ...

I like Uta Hagens Destination / 2 min exercise where students have to show a BELIEVABLE 2 min segment of their private life at home getting ready to go somewhere. It teaches them to forget about entertaining us and just do the simplest of tasks believably. They should be getting ready to go somewhere ...
