  • 1.  DIY Clyclorama Fabric?

    Posted 03-30-2023 10:17

    Hi all,

I have a cafetorium and raise my own funds for my program. I am looking for an affordable way to make a cyc to hang on pipe-and-drape pipes I already have.

I see a lot of suggestions for muslin and plastic. Has anyone here ever done this before or have knowledge about what I should look for?

    Thanks so much!

There are many ways to do this, it really depends on what you want your cyc to be and how big it needs to be.
There is muslin 120"wide that is the material a Cyc is manufactured from. you can use any fabric you have and can light. can you please explain the situation/space better so more thoughts can be provided?

    Thanks

Following! I have a small historic stage that is about 28ft wide x 12ft tall and I would love to add some type of cyc too!

    Hello,
I would simply order an unpainted muslin backdrop with grommets and ties to your size specifications. It's versatile and relatively inexpensive. There are several online options.
    Good luck,

    Hi Cynthia!

I do think that the suggestions you already received have been great. An unpainted piece of muslin to your specs may really be the cheapest, highest quality solution. I have also grommeted and had success using canvas drop cloths from Home Depot as a cheaper cyc in a pinch. I think the biggest one is 9' x 12' there may even be a 12' x 15' version out there. So in some cases I have used up to 2 to 4 of them to make a makeshift version (sewn or safety pinned together) depending on my prep time and resources. I also have reached out to some curtain and blind manufacturing businesses that I have locally as they just have access to larger bolts of fabric than I have been able to find on my own. From companies like that, occasionally I have received a white or unbleached material donation from that type of company that has covered my whole back drop needed...

So, those are just some thoughts I wanted to share in case helpful.

    Cheers,
    Colleen

Hi, A DIY cyclorama fabric can be created by using a large white or green screen cloth and attaching it to a curved frame to create a seamless, curved background for photography or videography purposes.
