  • 1.  Does anyone know of a 30 (or less) minute play that address the issue of Gun Violence?

I have a student who is passionate about telling the stories of survivors of gun violence. Does anyone know a play that could fit that?

It has to be 30 minutes or less.

    Thanks!

There are two collections of short plays now published by Playscripts that are from the #ENOUGH project. They were written by high school students and won a national competition.

I have only produced Lockdown while back which felt about 45 min in length. Plus not really about survivor stories. I have not read all these plays fully, but my guess is they might have something your student would be excited about since there are multiple plays to pull from etc: https://www.enoughplays.com/plays. Not sure how the licensing might work with just a portion of the play(s) but I would think playscripts would work with you. Here are the two more specific links which you can read online for free, although you may have to purchase a perusal copy eventually to read all the endings: https://www.playscripts.com/sample/5115, https://www.playscripts.com/sample/5656. It is a really relevant subject so major kudos to you and your student thinking about doing a show that's related. It's definitely why I've kept #enough on my radar.

    Cheers,
    Colleen

Two I've seen recently on Playscripts are Declaration and #Enough.  Declaration is a true one-act in vignette style.  #Enough is a collection of 10-minute plays that you might be able pull the ones that work for you.  There's another one that's similar - #Enough: Every 15 Minutes. It's a different collection of 10-minute plays that you could pull from.

    I hope that help!

I highly recommend the play "Triggered" by Sarah Jenkins. It's a powerful and thought-provoking 30-minute production that addresses the issue of gun violence through the stories of survivors. The play sensitively explores the impact of gun violence on individuals, families, and communities, shedding light on the lasting effects and the importance of finding hope and healing. Your student's passion for telling these stories will be well served by this impactful play.
