I taught a semester course for the first time last year. Students really enjoyed it, and especially liked studying In the Heights! They enjoyed staging scenes and learning choreography as well. But I thought it was important to offer some historical perspective, so they learned about Gilbert and Sullivan and the contribution of black Americans to musical theatre.
