"The Mother Goose News Hour" is a fun choice for a very young target audience. The script calls for a cast of 19 but it can be performed with a cast of 20 if the part of the ANNOUNCER is divvied up for 2 performers. The script can be purchased either directly from the publisher, YouthPLAYS.com, or from ...

Last summer, Boji Bantam Children's Theatre in Iowa showcased a production of "The Mother Goose News Hour." Below is a link to an excerpt of the script. If you scroll to the The Production Notes, which appear on page 5 of the excerpt, it states that all songs can either be sung or spoken by the character. ...

I'm just curious about the members of this Forum. Are most folks drama teachers at public schools? Alternatively, are most people drama instructors through Parks & Recreation or other afterschool type programs? ------------------------------ Hans Offenfrish ------------------------------

You might be able to find what you're looking for on Drama Notebook. They advertise royalty-free scripts. Here's the link: https://www.dramanotebook.com/plays-for-kids/ ------------------------------ Hans Offenfrish ------------------------------

Hello, all you experienced drama teachers out there! For those of us who are new at this, how far in advance do you figure out which play you're going to have your students perform? For example, do you figure out the Fall production over the summer or before then? ------------------------------ Hans ...

Ahh . . . I think the issue is the cast size of 25 - 35 students. The only 15 -20 minute production I've done with a cast that large for elementary grades has been "Cake for the Queen." Unfortunately, that script, which is published by YouthPLAYS, is not royalty free. You can read an excerpt of that ...

What is most in demand by theatre classes for elementary, middle grade, and high school students? Is it 10 minute plays, one acts, or full length scripts? Also, is the preference for comedies or dramas? ------------------------------ Hans Offenfrish ------------------------------

I don't have a lesson in mind. However, I did want to comment that some scripts are written such that the lines are significantly easier for performers to memorize their lines than others. ------------------------------ Hans Offenfrish ------------------------------

For a one act for 9th graders, I'd consider "Cake for the Queen" which is published by YouthPLAYS. It deals with people not appearing to be what they seem as well as transformation. It is available on the publisher's website (youthplays.com) as well as on Amazon. It's great if you're looking for something ...

I recently started a discussion on the Educational Theatre Association's Open Forum with the heading "Where to look for scripts?". One of the people who replied, Brendan Conheady, provided a link to an article that listed play publishers for schools. I know that some of the publishers cited, like YouthPLAYS, ...

@Brendan Conheady -- Your curated list starts with "Stage Partners". Is that different than the "Stage Agent" that Elisabeth Ledwell mentions above? Also, your list includes "YouthPLAYS" which someone else pointed me to. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with them? ------------------------------ ...

Thank you. I see your list has a lot of old stand-bys (e.g. Arsenic & Old Lace, Shakespeare, etc.). I like seeing plays that I'm not familiar with which I see a number of as well. I especially appreciate the personal comments that you've included in your list. That's quite a chronology! --------- ...

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. A lot of the resources that you've pointed me to I hadn't heard of before. I asked around and YouthPLAYS and Drama Notebook are two others that were also mentioned. I have started looking online at all of the various websites mentioned. I have to say, it feels ...

I was just wondering how folks usually go about finding a good one-act or full-length play? Is it mostly word-of-mouth or do you go to a particular website to read lots of excerpts of scripts? I am looking for a non-musical play for students to perform. What types of scripts are most popular with students ...
