We are doing Something Rotten in the spring, and, so the kids know what rotten is spoofing, we are doing Much Ado about Nothing in the fall. I cant wait to hear all the other responses. I am taking notes! Break a leg this year, everyone!!! ------------------------------ Chris Fallows Director Heritage ...

I get it. I also know that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so advocate for yourself ½ as much as you do for your kids. Is coaching part of your PE teachers duties? Are they required to work after school and run sports as part of the price of being a PE teacher? If not, then you are no different. Certainly ...

Thanks, Gai. I second your position. And thanks to all the people who have so far responded to me outside this thread. I understand that in many districts the "pay" for even coaches is not close to an hourly rate for an actual professional. A starting point is to get theatre professionals on par with ...

First, let me say I love this email in my inbox each day. Hearing from you, even for a two-minute-skim read when I am in a rush as I usually am, makes me feel connected and inspired. I am interested in what you, my wonderful colleagues are receiving for their after school programs. I put up between ...

I totally agree, Billy. Thanks for the perspective realignment. Resentment, even when well-founded, is a time and energy vampire. Two things I tell myself every that are true: 1. I love this job and these lovely people. 2. Make sure the message of love gets through. Oh, and our club mantra-If you ...

We are doing Now. Here. This., a lovely musical by the folks who did [Title of Show]. Right on Cue Services, who does a lot of the Concord Theatricals musicals, doesn't have this show. Does anyone know where I can search for music tracks? Thanks!

It seems to me that, in the first case there is no problem at all if he/she never committed to that production, and in the second case that the student with the game conflict overcommitted and has to violate a commitment either way. That is an unfortunate part of growing up as kids learn responsibilities ...

Hello, Thespian Universe! Does anyone teach a musical theatre class? At our school it would likely be something team taught, which dance, theatre, and vocal teachers. Who out in the universe is doing a set-up like that? Can you share ideas, syllibi, curriculum, helpful encouragement. We can 121 students ...

Absolutely use online resources, but I whole-heartedly agree with Gai about James Thomas Bailey's book. It is incredibly insightful, connecting improv to many of the theatre skills and life skills we want our students developing. Each lesson is modeled and it both highly scripted AND highly adaptable. ...

We don't have all seniors wear honors at graduation, just ones who earn 30 points or more, which could be done in less than four years.  If they are thespians, they are thespians for life, correct?  It seems to me that is they chose other activities during their senior year, and were not inactive due ...

So, you don't do any dialogue around the singing? I would like to work on transitioning and how the song fits into the story, too. Do you have lessons or an outline that I can see? Is your class year-long or semester? Ours would be a year-long course. The Liberty Union High School District ...

My choir director and I want to plan a musical theatre class that we can team teach. Who can help us out there in Thespian forum land? First, do you have course outlines, lessons, stuff to share? Is anyone else doing it in a team teaching system? How? Do you do auditioning for musical theatre as well ...

I have ChromaQ color force 48-inch lights and they , when they work, they are great, EXCEPT I have had problems with them flipping out and strobing and flickering on and off. It has happened to 3 different units, and I want to pull my hair out. Anyone know what might cause this? Chris Fallows ...

We used to do two weekends and always had more people the 2nd weekend, but we weren't welling out. We began 5 years ago to run all of our shows for three weekends. usually Fri/Sat, Fri/Sat, Thurs/Fri/Sat. the last Saturday as a matinee. When we do a show with a bigger draw like Les Miz or Hairspray, ...

The music is not complicated, but i love "What you don't Know about Women" from City of Angels. It allows for really fun staging, and is not on the "wildly overdone" list. ------------------------------ Chris Fallows Director Brentwood CA ------------------------------ -------------------- ...

For our fall play, we audition in May, have production meetings, and readthroughs, and I make sure the cast knows has basic understanding of their characters and the script before we break for summer. They are all responsible for being off-book by the first rehearsal ( which is after school on the second ...
