I've been collaborating with a colleague from a neighboring school that did Addams Family a few years ago. They had promised us nearly all the sets, props, and costumes for the show, freeing up our budget to buy a sorely needed sound system. Now, 2 weeks before opening, it turns out that there are several ...

Our classroom/black box is serving has our main stage until the MPR is completed (at least 3 years from now). It has wonderful, albeit basic, lighting. But we have no sound equipment for musicals. I don't mind doing stripped down versions of musicals; it's a great challenge and enjoyable for the audience. ...

Please give me your opinions / insight / experience on doing Addams Family in a black box with a small (ish) cast. I'm of the mind that any show can be done in any venue with some creativity. But I've never seen the show and would appreciate your input. Thanks! ------------------------------ Shanda ...

I need something for my Theatre I/II students (high school level) for the last 2 block classes. They've already done their final projects (Sock Puppet Shakespeare), and they have watched and compared The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You. I will be missing the last 2 block classes, and ...

P.S. I want the actors to be visible like they are in Avenue Q. What do you think of that? The whole reason I want to use puppets is because performing pre-recorded scenes on Zoom, the actors' movements are limited. I think they can do more movement with a puppet?? Sent from my iPhone On Apr ...

Thanks very much. Lots to consider. Our district adopted an insane schedule this year. We do an entire semester in just 7 weeks. 2.5 hour block classes every other day and 95 minutes required homework every other day. Only two classes at a time. So we are just about to wrap up periods 3 and 4 (French ...

Has anyone combined their puppetry unit with Shakespeare? I will do some research online, but I wanted to see if anyone had already created a unit for their classroom before I recreate the wheel. Like most of you, some of my students are in person and many opted to stay at home. So our 3rd and final ...

Whew. Just read through all the (nearly) 100 replies that have rolled in since June. I ignored it until now because my district has a really weird schedule (just 2 periods at a time for 6 weeks; teach an entire semester in 6 weeks; start over and do it again with the next 2 periods; etc.). I don't see ...

(Please forgive me if this question is redundant. I searched and did not find what I was looking for.) Has anyone created or come across a high school theatre curriculum that is easily modified for distance learning and hybrid models? There has already been a lot of back and forth about how we will ...

For our little black box, I was going to buy a cyc and paint it sky blue for the back drop to You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, along with some paintings of a tree, bushes, section of white picket fence. But I should really cut that expense (about $300) given how strapped our program is. Should I just ...

Looking for information from this community on how to proceed...I just found out that a theatre in our community is apparently opening You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown on the same day that we are closing our production of the same show (revised version). I have never in all my years of theatre heard ...

Thanks for asking this question. I look forward to reading the answers and would like to piggy back on your question with two of my own regarding Mamma Mia: 1. Has anybody done it in a small black box? 2. What is the theme of the play beyond "life is short, let's party"? Ha ha. I'm sure there's more ...

Is there a simple, inexpensive way to number theatre seats that doesn't involve the time consuming work of screwing down the plates? I thought that surely there must be number plates with adhesive backing but haven't found any. Thanks. ------------------------------ Shanda Bonn Theatre Teacher ...

How many 50 minute class periods could/should be dedicated to a storytelling unit using the Moth model? I've never done this before. Thanks. ------------------------------ Shanda Bonn, M.Ed. Theatre Teacher Simi Valley High School Simi Valley CA ------------------------------
