Greetings Arden and Congrats on embarking on this incredible journey. To quote Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George" - "A blank page or canvas, his favorite - so many possibilities." I have had success with shows that have been mentioned such as "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" ...

First, I am sorry to hear what your kids are going through. I left Florida for greener pastures after acting, writing, teaching and directing there for 30 years at every level. I saw an increase of bullying and marginalizing of the arts over the past 5 years and the political climate has some impact. ...

Good Morning Alexis, I have directed "Beauty" three times over 17 years and have always used either The Costume Holiday House https://www.costumeholidayhouse.com/category/chh/theatre-rentals/ or The Costumer https://www.thecostumer.com/c-3345-rental-costumes.aspx for renting enchanted item costumes. ...

Greetings Brett, I produced "The Curious Savage" about 5 years ago with my kids. The interest in the show began when one of my students selected it for a Student-Directed Scene at Thespian competition. After they won a critics choice/Best in Room award, the student director and students in the scene ...

have used The Costumer in New York for 2/3 of my shows, including YAGMCB. Each costume came clean, bagged and tagged. They are great with customer service. My second option is Costume Holiday House in Chicago. I use them when I need to customize a show not in the catalogue or as a back up when The Costumer ...

Happy New School Year! Did the show 10 years ago. Fantastic experience and many relevant topics that tied into SEL and made for great exploration and discussions.  We made most of the recommended and approved edits for high school. (i.e. "Distraction" and "Gosh Darn Letter"). We had the right ethnicities ...

Regardless of their motivations, these students have been trained and inspired by your teachings. I think Mark said it best when he suggested you embrace the situation. Support them in word and deed. Allow them to rent costumes and props with an adult cosign and supervision. If they mount a performance, ...

Check out Rich Orloff''s Romantic Fools. It has many hilarious scenes. A couple may need some content editing depending upon community standards, but I've had no problem performing them with high school. Break a leg! Will ------------------------------ William J. Eyerly, Ph. D, Ed. D Director ...

Hello Ashley, I highly recommend the "Embrace" mic from Point Source Audio. It can be worn over the ear or in the hairline with equal effectiveness. They are far more durable than countryman and virtually student proof so if there is mic sharing during a show there is less chance of damage. They will ...

Mark makes an excellent point. Ill-fitting costumes should be addressed. The actor should let the director know immediately if there is an issue (too tight, too loose). Those things can be rectified. I am also always sensitive to fabric allergies, latex allergies, and other medical considerations.  ...

I wish I could say I hadn't endured similar issues from time to time! Do you have a show contract that outlines following the rules and wearing the costumes, wigs, accessories you are provided? If so, presumably the student and parents signed it. If not, you may consider this option in the future.  ...

Good Morning, I would troubleshoot to make sure the x y crossfaders are set properly. Also, some boards have a button that needs to be depressed to go beyond 16 channels. Hope it works out! ------------------------------ William J. Eyerly, Ph. D, Ed. D Director of Theatre K-12 The Village ...

Hi James, I have a unique perspective on Carousel having played Billy Bigelow in an equity production and directing it years later in regional theatre. Directing it especially, I came to realize the show's serious flaws. I was especially disturbed by the casual treatment of domestic abuse, particularly ...

Greetings! I did it a year and a half ago with 15. My princess/mersisters were also my sea chorus in "Under the Sea" and "Kiss the Girl". I doubled sea captain as chef. I did "Poor Unfortunate Souls" with just flotsam and jetsam and sea witch, etc. The show was a huge success and the kids had a lot ...

Hi, review rules. I think Colorado is pretty well aligned with National rules, but some states like Florida are not - especially in performance categories. Also, the rubric for sound design scoring is available as well on schooltheatre.org Remember, everyone at Nats was Superior at State, so you ...

I am so sorry you are having this issue. I agree with many of the other comments and we have not only a ITS policy but a theatre department handbook policy regarding social media and negative or disparaging comments about fellow students, directors, casting, etc.  In addition, the handbook says officers ...
