Favorite musical to see? Listen to? Direct?
For favorite all-around, it's got to be "She Loves Me". The music by Bock and Harnick is some of their best, and the book by Joe Masteroff rivals "Cabaret". It is a sweet little play, with very moving moments, great ensemble bits, and some wonderful opportunities for actor/singers.
An overlooked musical that served us quite well at out high school was "Pacific Overtures". It's not overdone, like many Sondheim's (I've seen some awful "Sweeneys"- the kids are too young to really get it) and it doesn't pose the design challenges of "Sunday in the Park". But it has all of the complexity of these other Sondheim shows, both musically and with the book by John Weidman. It gives the director and students an opportunity to work on something that is highly stylized and extremely engaging. A challenge, but well worth it.

One? Impossible. Unless "Sondheim" counts as one.
