I turned in my two-week student learning packet on Wednesday evening.... which was just in time. We will be out from Monday through the 31st.  I teach elementary and our school-wide policy is to have *may do* and *must do* activities clearly labeled across grades and subjects.  PS, PK, and K activities are all *may do* and include things like a link to the audio for "Carnival of the Animals" and instruction to listen to two sections (two different animals) and move around a space to the music- like the animal in the title. I also have parents and students going to storylineonline.net (a SAG/AFTRA site that has actors reading children's books), listen to the story and recreate characters at various parts of the story. (Betty White's reading of "Harry the Dirty Dog" is just delightful.)

For my older elementary students, I have included both *may do* and *must do* activities. My third graders have been working on reading texts/scripts and identifying what set pieces would help an audience understand the setting if we were onstage. As and extension, I have them doing similar exercises with props (What props are absolutely necessary for actors to tell this story?) and costumes (Use the body outline on the page to design a costume that would best show the character to the audience.)  I am looking forward to the designs I will get.... since the text I am using is "Hey, That's My Monster!" and they have to design for one of the monsters.

My students also perform showcases tied to core content classroom work at the end of the year. I usually hand out scripts during the time we are home. My plan is to finish and cast the scripts, get them to the classroom teachers for feedback, and then post them to my drama webpage so the kiddos (and families) can begin reading them... and maybe memorizing lines before their return.

If my students don't have net access at home before today, the school is providing a Chromebook and working with the district to set up free wifi hotspots.  Everyone will be covered. (We also have a food plan, too. So many of our students are in need.....)

This mostly improvised mockumentary was directed by MTHS alumni Nick Terry when he was a senior at Mountlake Terrace HS (age 17). Nick was a drama student and performed in many plays at Terrace and was a member of the TheatreSports team. His mockumentary "Senior Prom" had its World Premiere at the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival!

Instruction:

After watching "Senior Prom" brainstorm three ideas for a script you would like to see made into a short film/video. You are not writing the script yet, just coming up with some possible storylines. Once you have your ideas submit them. I would love to chat with you via Canvas about them. If we get back to school soon, we may decide to make a short video for the class! If we continue to work remotely, this may be a project we can do and upload the videos to share. At this time this is not a graded activity, however, depending on how things go it may be reassigned for credit. :)

Keep these things in mind:

• It must have a beginning, middle and an end.
• It should have one main character from whose perspective we are observing the story.
• You should consider what the main character is hoping to achieve (objective)
• You should consider what obstacles exist that make it difficult for the main character to get what they want.
• How will the main character get around the obstacles?
• Decide whether the main character will achieve their goal.
  • what lesson does the main character learn?

The Historic:

• I plan to give the class a list of common household items that they will be challenged to create a scene, video, and upload. 
• Another lesson plan will include instructions to create a commercial for an item from a list of fun/wacky household items - allowing students to select something they would like to make a commercial promoting (as long as it is school appropriate.
