My HS too is fairly conservative when it comes to language and specific adult references. Here is a list of plays that have hit the mark with both my students and my audiences over the years:
The Miracle Worker - William Gibson (story of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan)
David and Lisa - James Reach ( HS students in a school for emotionally disturbed kids)
A Room With A View - Christina Calvin (classic romantic comedy- guy 'skinny dipping' scene is hilarious with the guys in long underwear)
Our Hearts Were Young and Gay - (if you can get past the title, this is a wonderful classic comedy from the 20's about two young women off on their grand tour all by themselves)
Harvey - Mary Chase (classic comedy- man sees invisible rabbit)
Moby Dick Rehearsed - Orson Welles, (great ensemble divised 'rehearsal' of the classic tale with music)
The House at Pooh Corner - (children and families loved this)
The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde
Pride and Prejudice - Joseph Hanreddy and J. R. Sullivan, but versions out there
