Bio

Arlene Hutton is a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre and best known as the author of THE NIBROC TRILOGY, which includes LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC (New York Drama League Best Play nomination), SEE ROCK CITY (In the Spirit of America Award) and GULF VIEW DRIVE (LA Weekly and Ovation Award nominations). Other works include I DREAM BEFORE I TAKE THE STAND, the Holocaust story LETTERS TO SALA and AS IT IS IN HEAVEN, an ensemble play for nine women, about the Shakers. Her play for young audiences, HAPPY WORST DAY EVER, was commissioned by Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and was the winner of the 2010 Macy’s New Play Prize.
An alumna of New Dramatists, Hutton is a member of Dramatists Guild, seven-time Actors Theatre of Louisville 10-Minute Play Contest finalist, three-time winner of the Samuel French Short Play Festival.
Hutton has taught workshops and given talkbacks at schools and conferences around the country, including the New York State Summer School of the Arts, the South Carolina Governor's School, KC/ACTF, SETC and ATHE. She has taught playwriting at the Sewanee Writers' and Young Writers Conferences, the College of Charleston and (currently) The Barrow Group in New York City.
