I have a group of students who want to do a musical theatre performance piece but the song they've chosen is 8 minutes long. Can we cut it down to 5 as long as it's cut off the top or at the end so it's still a continuous track?

Yes!

I've done this in the past. As long as it is continuous and not a "Frankenstein cut" it is fine to my knowledge!

Hello everyone- Cory Wilkerson here from EdTA Education.  No need to cut only from the top or at the end, as long as the song remains at 5 minutes. You would also want to make sure that the cuts are not disruptive to the song's meaning, character development, etc.
