Terry McGonigle, known as McGoo to most of his colleagues and students, is beginning his 39th year as a theatre arts teacher and director and his 4th year at Alma High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He has a Master’s in technical theatre and design from Emporia State University and a second Master’s in Journalism from Pittsburgh State University.
In 1999, he was presented with the first Georgia Youth Arts Educator of the Year award. In 2002, he was inducted into the Kansas Theatre Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Georgia Theatre Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2007, he was honored with induction into the Educational Theatre Association’s National Theatre Educator Hall of Fame. In the summer of 2012, a video featuring McGoo’s work as a costume designer and educator was released by Interactive Educational Video, LLC, who currently has videos in over 2,000 schools across the country.
McGonigle served as the costume designer for the National Thespian casts of "Ragtime" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie". He served as the adult liaison for the Thespian Society’s international student officers working in leadership training with theatre students across the United States for nine years. An advocate of community service, McGonigle is an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity and the Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS organizations.
