1. There is an administrator present for our fall production but not for rehearsals, build days (weekend) our one=act or cabaret style performances. They do not attend our awards at the end of the year either.  I work often with diabetic students and got permission to have a small fridge in the backstage ...

When I worked for my first Drama Coach position-was considered suburban at that time but would probably be classified urban at this time (I was there 1991-93), I had my script not only read, but I was handed a sheet of page by page "you can't say this, you can't say that." Since I also had no control ...

I've seen a female Jesus (played as a woman) in productions of Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. I'm personally very liberal but I live in a very conservative area in Ohio. I wasn't offended and I'm not sure if any audience members were. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama ...

I'd call around to every high school near you! Ask the band teachers for recommendations. Colleges may also have some students who are available. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama Director Troy City Schools OH ------------------------------

Just write to the licensing house and ask if you can make the change. I've never been told no when I've asked Samuel French, Dramatists, Playscripts, Heuer, etc. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama Director Troy City Schools OH ------------------------------

I do but I do not go into the ins and outs of a contract--I just mention that there is one and how much royalties are for plays vs. the formula for musicals. If you want, I can send the page I use to have students fill out. I clip play or musical descriptions from the print catalogues I get and have ...

I'm working with a student with a different disability but still has speech difficulties. I didn't work with the speech pathologist only because it is not listed on his IEP. My school is pretty strict when it comes to not overwriting or over reaching IEP paperwork.  I've made different allowances ...

I have dance training but am not exclusively a choreographer: I'm a director who can choreograph. I'd never just make up a dance on the spot. Fix and adjust, yes, but never just go in cold. I start with the sheet music because I do read music and I use those notes and notation to get ideas. I'd do historic ...

In our program I have a * to designate Member of International Thespian Troupe 1553, a **Denotes Honor Bar member and a +Perfect Rehearsal Attendance.  In Ohio, you must be an inducted Thespian to audition for our state show, for our scholarships and to run for STO.  I also award a Varsity Letter at ...

I schedule performances a few days in advance so groups would know which four groups perform on Monday, four on Tuesday, etc.  If someone is absent from a group on the day they are scheduled to perform, I ask someone from the class to take a script and read along.  The show must go on.  It's on the absent ...

I bought two of the switchblade combs and stripped off the comb part.  From that far away, no one could see the blade was just the metal housing that remained. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama Director Troy City Schools OH ------------------------------

I award a letter for Thespians.  All of the work is tied to the performing arts: Theatre and Dance.  I don't include music since they have their own organization and I only include visual art if it is used in set creation, publicity, etc.   Our school follows the ITS awarding of points and we have ...

If I have a turnout that small, I cast what I can and then I recruit.  I'd approach a student in my drama classes, find out what other commitments/activities he or she has, give them a copy of the rehearsal schedule and then say "I have a part you'd be perfect for." ------------------------------ ...

I work in a very conservative district and we did Chicago with minimal language changes.  Our costumes were not skimpy, more of a "high end" styled look.  We received nothing but positive feedback on the show. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama Director Troy City Schools ...

We build periaktoi and just turned them to represent different sets--the set changes in this version are killer. We used the cast to bring on chairs and very small tables--no time for set changes. We also used a historical troupe to teach us the dances from the time period and they even lent us ...

Basically the Drama Club and Thespian Troupe are the same people, same meetings, same activities. The Drama Club is for new or not inducted folks. You have to be inducted in order to be a Thespian, to be an officer, etc. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama Director Troy City ...

I'm pretty sure Drama is covered under the ELA license but I'm not 100% positive. I don't think it's the best path, but one of least resistance. ------------------------------ Irene Imboden Teacher/ Drama Director Troy City Schools Tipp City OH ------------------------------

A few years ago we started cooking a "team dinner" for our cast and crew. After a rehearsal, we stay for an hour and have a home cooked dinner together. My husband and I provide the food and drinks. Before each opening night we have a pre-show circle. Anyone in the cast and crew who wants to can ...
