I use GoButton for my phone and IPad. I have not done any editing on it, but it works great as a player for sound cues:) ------------------------------ Lori Bush Director of Theatre Activities Pike County Middle & High Schools Zebulon, GA ------------------------------

These are all awesome ideas and suggestions! While I do recognize the students' thespian distinctions at our end-of-the year theatre banquet, I like the idea of using that term to propose recognition at the school-wide awards night. Love the signing ceremony tradition also:) Thank you everyone!! Lori ...

Hey guys:) A question... Does your school do anything at the school-wide Awards Night to recognize theatre students who have participated in multiple productions and maintained a high GPA? We have a "Scholar Athlete" award for sports, cheer, band... seemingly every category except theatre. I realize ...

Some girl heavy musicals are Frozen, Sister Act, Bring It On, and The Sound of Music (if you think about the nuns). Maybe consider allowing middle school boys to audition? I find that our middle schoolers are sometimes more reliable because they don’t have jobs & such. Best of luck, I hope you find something!:) ...

One of our easiest fundraisers is bagging for tips at our local grocery store. It requires almost no prep (we put out signs that we had made letting the customers know who we are and what the money goes toward), and we typically make $800-1200 a day. We try to schedule a day in the fall and another in ...

We are also doing Anastasia. We have opted to go with the rolling platform, and have the stage hands costumed as train attendants at each corner moving the car. My thoughts are, this is a high school production. Using people to turn the car gets more students on stage, costs a lot less, and let’s be ...

Thank you everyone for the feedback! In discussing with the boosters, I think we have decided to push through for a fully vaccinated trip to New York, and hope for the best in getting the numbers that we need. However, now I am also intrigued and can't wait to travel to DC and Toronto to check out the ...

Hello:) We have been planning a trip to NYC in April since spring. Now that Broadway is opening and mandating vaccinations to attend shows (and to do pretty much anything in the city), some of our parents are considering pulling their kids from the trip. It is a dilemma because we are split about 50/50... ...

Have you considered In the Heights? It would be very difficult for beginners but has a lot of roles that would appeal to guys. The movie version of In the Heights comes out in July. Maybe start a social media account, put a student in charge of it to get others following. Then announce a group get-together ...

Hi:) Not sure about a play, but there are several musicals that introduce the subject gently. We have a similarly "leery" district when it comes to this. Last year we did All Shook Up and got at least 2 complaints from parents. However, this year we did Legally Blonde and marketed it as PG13, with only ...

We did this last year.  Don't laugh.... but I put 60 people in this show:)  I cast 5 boys and 5 girls as "featured ensemble." They were dressed as fairies (girls) and wood nymphs (boys) and they did ballet during Giants in the Sky, I Know Things Now, & Moments in the Woods. They also helped create some ...

Good morning! If you’ve ever done the play 937 by Don Zolidis, would love to see pictures of your set design. Ours must be portable to take to competition. I’m not sure of the tech/lighting capabilities of the facility where we compete, so simple is good. Thanks in advance!:) Lori Bush

I also teach Middle and High schools.  We do a one-act in October (HS only, auditions early August), Full-length musical in February (HS only, auditions late September), and a full length play or musical in late April (MS only).  Yes, it's a lot and I don't really have an "off" season, but it works.  ...

Our actor wore black pants and shoes and the fake legs (we used pool noodles covered by baby tights and black toddler boots) are attached to the front of the hips. The top of the tights were sewn onto the black pants. The heels of the boots were glued to the knees. Over that, the actor wore a tunic ...
