I am following this conversation as we are always looking for good costumers. In the meantime, my assistant and I have begun making the costumes from scratch as a way to save some money and to ensure we are getting the look that we want. We have saved some money here, but it sometimes adds some stress ...

Hi all, I am looking to see how much hired musicians are paid to play for HS musicals. We currently need to hire 100% of our orchestra for each show which is slowly adding up. According to our music teacher (who selects the musicians) that it is customary to pay an amount for rehearsal and then pay ...

Hello! Hopefully you are enjoying the summer (what is left of it) and finding the time to recharge. As we approach the new school year, I was looking at Young Frankenstein as an option for the upcoming school year. MTI has the broadway and West End version. Does anyone know the difference between ...

Hi all. Has any HS recently done young frankenstein? If so, can you share any pro's/con's with producing the show? I am looking at it for our fall show. Thank you. ------------------------------ James Fry Director of Student Life and the Malvern Theatre Society Malvern, PA ------------------------- ...

Hi Amy, I have been using projections for a couple of shows now. Most recently we did Something Rotten and ordered the projection packet from Broadway media. It was a game changer for us. When not getting them from a company, I have a parent who is a wiz at creating projections, both still and animations, ...

HI Miguel, I did CATS many moons ago and we used smoke geysers built into the set for the effect. It worked nicely coupled with a small strobe effect in the same area. You can even gel the strobe to give a red/orange flame color. Aside from that we didn't get too wrapped up in all of the pyrotechnics ...

Hi all, I just finished a production of Something Rotten! and used the Broadway Media projections and they were AMAZING! The company was easy to work with and very good with customer service. That could be a solution for you if you have the ability. Between the projections and some minimal/multi-purposed ...

Please bring a shopping bag to help you collect your finds. Costumes span the 1920s through modern day and includes ...

Good Morning, We did Newsies 2 years ago and had a blast. We don't necessarily have plans per se, but I can try to walk you through how we did the press and newspaper stacks. Both were easily constructed and didn't take too much time. Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss. Jim ...

Hi Melinda, Great show choice! Our kids had blast doing that show. Our newspaper bundles used in Once and For All was a piece of 2" pink foam wrapped in newsprint and then a print out of the Banner on top. We then tied it up. We made about 30 of these. They were lightweight, but solid.  Our printing ...

Hello, I was not aware of flipgrid - I will definitely check it out. For the 2 dramas we are working on this fall/winter, we did recorded acting auditions that were shared with me. I then added them to a Google Drive. What I liked about the video submissions is the ability to be able to go back to some ...

Hi Everyone, We just wrapped up the radio play, The War of the Worlds. Students edited an incredible video but kept true to the original radio style. We have been very fortunate to have extremely supportive and appreciative families who come out and support our program. Because of the pandemic and people ...

You can buy thicker paper masks on amazon that are easy to color on, or even wet and inprint on them. they come with strings and precut holes. Here is the LINK for the masks that I used. I have also taken some and did a paper mache to them to create warts, stronger features, and other facial expressions. ...

Good Morning! Great ideas, thank you for sharing. I do not have my theatre class this semester but I cover similar topics with my students. We constructed masks last year based on a character from Everyman, the play we were reading at the time. It was a cool experience for the guys as we worked on modernizing ...

Hello. We are also a small Catholic school and we did The complete works and it was a big success for us. The kids really enjoyed the quick pacing of it and the jokes/ad libbing that happened. It calls for 3 people to play all of the parts, but you could elaborate as needed. For example one group could ...

Hello, We are going back, but in small numbers at first and then gradually adding more students until we get back 100%.....if we ever do. We are going to be doing a radio play this fall with some workshops with people from NYC via zoom/google meets. Not the same as in person, but the students said they ...
