The most seminal experience in my teaching theatre was the opportunity to be part of the Globe Education Academy program through UC Davis 15 years ago when I was able to spend a couple weeks at the Globe Theatre studying embedding Shakespeare into my high school English and Theatre classes. Plus I have ...

My favorite Greek show is Antigone. I would have to look up the translation I used after reading through several translations to find one I liked and royalties were not expensive.  It definitely has strong women's roles.  I used a cast of 34 but but very flexible casting. ------------------------------ ...

I highly suggest The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. We just did it and it was a phenomenal show for a very talented cast of 10 and the lead role of Christopher is a tour-de-force part. My Christopher was a freshman so you may want to cast your mature senior in Ed--the father's role which ...

We included the scene when we did Metamorphoses. Done very symbolically though it was message was clear. My admin always reads and approves the entire play(s) that we do.  When we staged it, the audience could see the two actors never really "touched" each other though they entered the "pool" together; ...

I see you mentioned doing Godspell which is a wonderful "small" musical with a cast of 12. When we did it, we collaborated with our Choir teacher and had them sing along with many of the numbers and though we had three-four large dance numbers, you can handle it pretty much any way you want. We had our ...

Want some input on doing 1776 with an all female cast. Wondering about your approach to the production. Know some companies that keep it period and others that made it more of a concert version with a neutral setting. Would love to hear of your experience in staging it. Sent from Windows Mail

I generally wait 8 years for repeating plays but in view of your circumstances, I would say you should be extremely flexible. Another thought is to do a play you have done in the recent past but give it an entirely different treatment. For instance, we did Antigone one year and presented it with ...

I usually come up with plays I would like to do pretty easily but this year for some reason I am having difficulty choosing. I need a two (high school level) and they do not have to be thematically connected, but the key is a large cast (15-20ish). Want a good message with some gravity, but not as "heavy" ...

There are couple of good scenes in The Comedy of Errors and we just did a fun fight scene in Midsummer between Demetrius and Lysander. I would think pretty much any scene that lent itself to the commedia del arte style would be appropriate and virtually all of Shakespeare's works have great scenes with ...
