I've done scripted ones with my students, and I also work for an interactive murder mystery company. I not only perform in them, I've also written several. Feel free to pick my brain! Janie Janie Modlin, Director of Theatre Paul Blazer High School 1500 Blazer Boulevard Ashland, KY 41102 (606) ...

I do the 'dreaded budgeting' lesson every year (that's what my kids call it).  They're given the amount of my budget to produce two full-length straight plays, complete with scenery, props, costumes, makeup, etc.   They use play catalogs or the catalog website to choose their plays.  Each play must ...

Check out Pat Cook's 'Monday' series. They're cheesy and funny, easily staged (I used a student director), and the audience had a great time. They have all the noir elements, so it's a fun teaching moment, and the cast gets to play all these classic stereotypical characters. We had a ball! htt ...

After a disastrous trip with a company I won't mention (not EF), I decided to book everything myself. It's a lot of time, but after your first year you realize how easy it is--not to mention cost effective. We fly, spend 4 days/3 nights in a midtown hotel, 3-4 Broadway (sometimes one off-Broadway) shows, ...

I was about to say Eileen Moushey! Her shows are clever and my kids had a fantastic time performing. Janie Janie Modlin, Director of Theatre Paul Blazer High School 1500 Blazer Boulevard Ashland, KY 41102 (606) 327-6040 ext. 3602 or 3326 (Millennium Center) I love acting. It's so much more ...

A parent of a former student contacted me this week with a request, and I'm not sure what to tell her. Any suggestions? We are trying to plan for our MLK Celebration in January and want to do something different like a small skit or play. Do you know of anyone in the area already planning something ...

A local theatre group is producing a Twilight Zone show for Halloween. I contacted the director, and she said the scripts are the easy part. The Earl Hamner and Richard Matheson scripts are available for purchase on Amazon, but Rod Serling's episodes aren't available. Unfortunately, getting rights/permission ...

I decided several years ago, after a disastrous trip with a 'highly recommended' tour company**, to book our yearly NY trips myself; we get a much better trip that suits the students' needs/desires than if we go with a tour company. The cost is also much lower (although my time/energy commitment is much ...

After a semi-disastrous and far-too-expensive visit using Gerber Tours (a company I do not recommend), I started booking my trip myself. I've met several different tour guides over the years, and the best by far is Jim Dykes. www.jimdykes.com While that probably doesn't help with getting a group ...

I take students to New York every year, but I plan the trips myself. The first year we went, I used Gerber Tours and I was very disappointed with everything from the cost of the trip to the hotel (conveniently located in New Jersey, so we spent a large chunk of time every day commuting). If you're ...
