The school is Von Steuben HS, if anyone wants to look it up. It's a great school. ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw IL ------------------------------

I will be immediately taking a leave of absence for health issues and we are in need of a replacement. It may only be a TAT position, temporarily assigned teacher, but it's possible it will become long term, or the principal may be interested in keep you as a daily sub (cadre position) if I'm able to ...

Hi, I am soloing, putting up this musical rather quickly, and was wondering if anyone had any stage manager materials to share digitally so I can hit the ground running. Any advice about staging, set, and rehearsal schedule, or common challenges with the show are greatly appreciated. ------------------------------ ...

I recently took over a non-existent theater program. I'm not sure yet what our sound system looks like (still waiting for keys), but I've been told I have 2 days to spend $500 and I know we only have a few head mics. Any suggestions? I'm worried about buying something that might not be compatible with ...

Thanks. I do already teach 1&2 together and it is just as you say. I even do the 2 year rotating curriculum. My concern tbf was more with calling Drama 2 an honors class. It seemed that the honors label possibly merited curriculum that was even more elevated than just Drama 2, like adding genres, acting ...

I've done a 2 week "touch-on" Commedia unit in the past. We spent a few days learning about key stock characters, lazzi, and ended with a "walk-across" where students had to walk like one of the stock characters we studied and the class had to guess who they were just based on the walk. I've also had ...

I'm used to teaching Drama I & II in the same room by adding a line on the rubric for Drama II or making them mentors/directors. But to call Drama II Honors with the added GPA bonus seems disingenuous if I don't truly elevate their curriculum. How do I justify the double-enhancement of the class, if ...

My principal has asked me to teach Beginning Drama and Drama II in the same classroom (15 students in Beginning Drama, 15 in Drama II), and not only that but she wants to be able to say that Drama II is an honors class because having accelerated programs will make the school look good. If it wasn't honors, ...

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern is fun and for the most part I did not cast based on gender, both my Player and Rosencrantz were female. Not only is there the obvious tie to Hamlet, but the metaphysical conversations can be great. ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw IL ------------------- ...

I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a cast of 19+ depending on how many Oompa Loompas you want to throw into the mix. (pun intended) Perfect for bringing in nearby elementary school classes but with the tight language of Dahl. ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw -------------- ...

If there are issues with performing, perhaps writing criticism or a review could still allow her to work on some of the skills through observation and analysis of other's performances, if not her own? I like to show 2 versions of the same play and have kids critique the production elements as well as ...

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee-Original Broadway Version (2005)- requires little set, and is really clever with a flexible cast and catchy tunes that fit most ranges. https://www.mtishows.com/the-25th-annual-putnam-county-spelling-bee ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw ...

The Hello Girls looks like it requires several actresses that play instruments. Did you find a way around this or did you have the cast members that could pull that off? ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw ------------------------------

I've been getting the Fri.-Sun. NYTimes, and almost every week there's mention of a production available in YouTube. For me it's worth the subscription price. Also, there are free live Broadway shows every Friday at https://www.youtube.com/theshowsmustgoon ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw ...

I love my alma mater, Columbia College in Chicago. All the professors also work in their fields and a lot of the tech majors are working on professional productions by their 2nd and 3rd years in Chicago, helping them to make connections in their respective fields well before graduation. I have to second the experiences others had with the webinar. It's also helped inspire how to adapt other games for online learning. I'm also planning to take a class next Sunday online called Improv/Theatre Games on Zoom for Theatre Educators. It's not free (it's $70), but I'm very hopeful after seeing ...

I can second the use of Google Meets for class performances, if that is what you're looking for, versus school production performances. Google is working very hard to make themselves school friendly, but it does lose some of the features that zoom has. however, Google Meets has a ton of extensions that ...

I'm crestfallen that I missed this because, like others below, this is a sorely needed resource. Please let us know if we can access a recording or if you'll be presenting again, especially if it's in the next few weeks before classes start. Thanks. ------------------------------ Erin Philyaw Von ...
