For some reason we are having a hard time with projection but also SLOWING down. I've tried my tricks and lessons but it doesn't work. We have the honor of performing at our State Conference as a mainstage and I'd like to have the kids work with some guests to learn some new tools to perform vocally ...

It is definitely a hard part of the production, and at times the largest chunk of the budget. One way we help divert these costs is we purchase the lot as a program, but then following the show, I let the kids purchase the book instead of returning it to our closet o'scripts. This helps recoup some of ...

One thing I have found that really helps pump the kids up is doing a "fired up" circle just before curtain or just before a competition room. This has become a tradition and our seniors now take leadership on it and teach the new students. Another thing is to remember that there is such a thing as ...

We do ad/booster sales for the program.  Here is a copy of one.  The cost changes if it is a play, one act festival, musical etc.  We have to go through an approval process with our school board for any fundraising but they've always ok'd these, however, at my old district we could not.  So its a 50/50 ...

Our stage deck has lived through some rather rough times.  We are the only auditorium in the area so it is rented out for a variety of programs as well as all of the concerts, performances, ceremonies etc of the district, not to also count our theatrical productions.  Needless to say, she is a bit tired. ...

My students always joke that I know everyone, which is by no means accurate, and I'm putting it to the test! With all of this downtime and the downtime that is occurring with my friends in the non education theatre field, I have reached out to a few of my friends and set up a Facebook Live interview ...

We are also doing Spamalot - break a leg, but not with the stilts! I work for our local theme park and the stilts we use there are just your old fashion drywall stilts, I'm having one of our actors who is stilt trained come out and train my Knights of Ni.  The first thing is to practice falling, as ...

This can be a very hard, stay up every night kind of decision.   Thoughts: -Are you able to slap together any type of cast with who you have left?  Maybe not the "best" cast you had in mind but it is a show and their parents will love it regardless. -Its been a while since I've seen a Jr script ...

I have a 45 min quick and easy adaptation which we performed in a minimalistic style that could easily be arranged as a radio performance.  If you'd like it just shoot me a way to send it to you! ------------------------------ Kimberly Wibbenmeyer SULLIVAN MO ------------------------------

My first year at a school we did A Season of Choices, and our One Acts were Bang, Bang You're Dead and Lockdown.  Both about school shooters.  The way we approached it was to teach the lesson that we all make choices and those choices have consequences.  BBYD is more of the shooter's choice and what ...

Fundraisers are always hard, with the rules of what you can and can't do but also finding the time to get it together etc. The main fundraisers we do are through Yankee Candle (the costs of the candles are the same as in a store and you could do it all online without handling any money or product!).  ...

We are currently in rehearsal for Hunchback as well. I took a chance on these flame torches and they came in and are looking fabulous! I also love that they are solar so there is no more battery cost. We cut black thick cardstock to cover the sensor so it lights. It also has an on/off switch.  ht ...

What kind of paint? Oil based/latex etc... With latex we've had luck if you keep it wet with hotter water then taking a bristled brush to scrub. We've gotten it out that way as well with after it's dried (not as well but still a good amount). We were given that way to clean by the seller of the paint. ...

As I've never seen the script I'm just guessing here... Fire swamp - are you wanting like puffs of steam or like blazes?  Puffs - geyser lighting instruments are great!  blazes - you can add the color to the geyser or a flash pot. Setting someone on fire?  Maybe use the small fire and ice movers ...

The offbook dates and no excuses dates obviously that we probably all use in practice.  However, I've found for myself that recording it on a phone or device then hearing it and going over and over it audibly has helped me as an actor and has helped a lot of my kids.  Hearing not just the words but the ...

As a costumer who is very proud of keeping things within period, I pride myself in acquiring small aspects such as glasses or time pieces ahead of production just in case.  However, also being a theatre teacher, I weigh which is more important - the show as a whole and having a happy cast and happy parents/guardians ...

I did Annie Jr. a few years back in a similar thrown in last minute type thing.  I too had only worked with high school or older and I quickly found out that in treating my young kids like "professionals" and always calling them young artists the kids raised their attitudes and talents to my expectations. ...
