We are doing the same show and version in October. We got our scripts this week. The scripts do not have a prop list so my prop crew is making it themselves. It's good practice, they will come into rehearsal and check their list against the scene work, and they will be fully invested in the show. It's ...

Every show, the night before we open is dark night. No rehearsals that day at all. It gives the kids a chance to relax, rest up, and be ready for opening night. I have middle and high school kids and this has worked for me for years. No worries. ------------------------------ Karen Dean St. George's ...

I just used these with my Middle Schoolers. They look good. There are 24 in a box and they were pricey (like $67 a box) but I bought all 17 kids five masks a piece to get through tech, dress, and run. They had a new one each night. It was worth it to the school to have them in masks and mics. Here is ...

I know I have seen this before but I don't remember the answers. It looks like we may not be able to do our spring musical in our theatre ( and maybe not at all). I was thinking of maybe a cabaret type show with small scenes leading up to a song from a show and stringing those together. I imagine getting ...

While we are at it, it is ridiculously hard to find things like honor cords and such in the store. The only way I can find what I need is to put in the item number from last year's invoice. If I type in the name of anything, the store can't find it. Isn't there an easier way to shop? Karen Dean-- ...

I did this in 2017 with 20 kids in it, 6 of them male. We had a blast. It was the most fun I've ever had directing a musical. Play up the cheesiness in it. Our set was a box set look of a schoolroom with the sides generic enough that we could play things like Toffee's bedroom.  I used 2 rolling tables ...

I have a student that has been accepted to both the Open Jar Institute and BroadwayEvolved this summer. Does anyone have insight into which one I should steer her to accept. She can't do both. It is cost prohibitive. Thanks! Karen DeanSt. George's Independent SchoolCollierville, TN-- Karen DeanDirector ...

I am now teaching a middle school theatre class. This year I had a mix of 7th and 8th graders. Next year there will be several 7th graders staying with me as 8th graders. I need to alter the curriculum so they are not doing the exact same thing they did this year. I will be doing some things again but ...

The forum from this morning was stopped from being posted to my e-mail address because "offensive language was detected." Not sure if there really was foul language on a post or if my system just went crazy. Just thought I would let you know. You all may want to temper what you say, just in case. Weird. ...
