I would recommend moving forward with a new show next year unless you have the ideal cast to replace your seniors. We lost our spring play as well, but the students I will have next year will have different needs in terms of casting and shows. I am struggling with the same thing during the fall in terms ...

I tell my kids that I care more about their character than the character before each audition. I stress that I would rather work with hard working kind students. If students become about themselves, than I don't need them negatively impacting the rest of the cast, even if they are talented. If you are ...

Hi, All, I am looking for a straight full length play with 2-4 men and 10-20 female roles for my advanced class. This is my final production of the year so I am looking for something less tech heavy. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Heathe Stecklein Director and Educator ...

I did Antigone without an intermission because there was not one written in and there was no good place to interrupt the flow of the show. That being said, students in the audience did get a little restless without one. I would say that if there is a good break in the show that allows for a strong end ...

I have students create children's plays from their favorite children's books. I also bring in some in case they need ideas: Where the Wild Things Are, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree.... We watch fairy tale theatre. I use the Three Little Pigs which you can find on youtube for free. ...

I would look at Little Women. Laurie needs to be a high tenor but there are only two or three boy parts. Annie is always a good one with few boys and much easier musically although it may be a larger cast than you want. Annie Get Your Gun also does not require many strong singers beyond the male lead, ...

Hi All! I am looking for a shorter play to use for students to read, analyze, and direct scenes from. Something like Almost Maine with 2-4 actors in each scene. Any suggestions? Also, my high school is across the street from one of our K-8 feeders. I want to do more to continue to build a ...

There is a play version of The Outsiders which my kids loved thru Dramatic Publisher. The characters were very accessible to my students and it drew in one of the best audiences for a non musical that I have had. ------------------------------ Heathe Stecklein Theatre Director/Teacher Aurora CO

I always have set rules that are implemented from day 1 and posted in my room, the most important of which is one microphone (only one person speaks at a time and I require hands). I also go over rehearsal etiquette where we discuss appropriate times for questions and ideas v. inappropriate times and ...
