Good for you for taking this on--the more arts opportunities we offer our kids, the better place our world is. To answer your question. I am in my 4th school as a solo theatre teacher/department. I have been very successful everywhere, thank goodness. I am currently in a large public school (1700 students) ...

So, tough situation.   1)  Covid situation:  I don't really have a real solution for this.  I think keep the actors who are at home on Zoom--at least they are there and are part of the rehearsal and have people walk the roles.  It's not the same, but they are still working together.  I would try to ...

Stageplays.com.  There's a small fee.  Most other publishing houses will publish, but they require a professional production or major workshopping.  Stageplays does not. ------------------------------ Marie Miguel Chespeake, VA ------------------------------

Wow, I am so jealous!  I think rehearsal blocks are a good idea, but I would maybe look into if your local high school has a shop class that could build them for you--you'll still have to pay for them, but probably a lot less.  Lighting might be good, but unless you're going to be using your room for ...

Fall Show - 1st fall production in 20 years  - Grimm Brothers Spectaculathon One-Act Competition - TBD, but some of my top choices are Fighting Demons, Machinations and And Spring Musical - The Lightning Thief, the Percy Jackson Musical  - I am so excited for this--I really hope it brings in non-theatre ...

I have an adaption of Oedipus that I'd be glad to share.  I did it in conjunction with Children of Antigone.  I can't remember which play house has it.  Together they are about 2 hours, ------------------------------ Marie Miguel Chespeake, VA ------------------------------

I would recommend Grimm Brother Spectaculathon or Greek Olympicganza by Don Zolidis.  Questionable by Alan Haehnel is also really fun. ------------------------------ Marie Miguel Chespeake, VA ------------------------------

Leon, You make some.excellent points, and in a perfect world, I would love to do more "lesser known" shows.  But, if your show budget depends on attendance, and that.amazing piece that deserves to be seen, but no one has heard of,.has low attendance.  It could jeopardize an entire season.   Those ...

Cora, I feel you with the concern about students returning to audition.  I have a very small cast show planned for the fall that will hopefully bring them running back. I think it's important to take a break from rehearsals.  It can become too much.  I do 95% of my tech work through my drama classes--I ...

I was only able to do one show this year, and it was so difficult.  I am new to my building, so I am so disappointed that I wasn't able to do anything that I really had planned.  So, next year. I can really do anything I want--my biggest concern is that I won't have enough kids to do what I want, but ...

I would strongly advise against using lighting for an outdoor performance.  Along with everything previously mentioned, unless you are rehearsing at the same time as the performance, you will have no real idea of how much light is being produced until the show.  Where do you put the board, if you're ...

I need a full-length play for 4 actors. 1 boy and 3 girls.  Preferably comedy, full-length or a collection of scenes.  Low tech requirements.  I wanted to do Twelfth Night this spring, but my audition turn out was abysmal, so I can't do that.  Also, preferably cheap or free- I'm trying not to spend any ...

Any suggestions?  I am producing my one-act play in my classroom, which is a black box theatre and we have to record it for our competition, no live performance.  It is a relatively small space, and currently, I have no front light for actors.  I have tried reorienting them, but with the location of ...

i listened to the sound test, and it's clear as a bell, but they're using mics.  I don't have that for one-acts. ------------------------------ Marie Miguel Chespeake, VA ------------------------------

A few years ago I did two plays - an adaption of Oedipus that I wrote, and then Children of Oedipus by Nelly Cuellar-Garcia from Eldridge Plays.  Each show was 45 min., so it was a good 2 act show.  It gave the audience the backstory of Oedipus (for those who don't know it) and then told the story of ...

Hey all, So, we are should be back to f2f soon, and I plan on starting rehearsals in mid-November for our competition one-act.  I am very excited to get back to creating, however, in the back of my mind is that nagging voice that reminds me that all of the precautions we have to do are going to interfere ...

Just need to pick some brains.  Although I don't have any rosters yet, and have no idea how many students i will have, I will be having my Drama 2-5 students in the same class.  My original plan was to have the entire group produce  a play the second half of the semester, use the 1st half to "teach" ...

I always charge new inductess a fee--it's generally enough to pay for their induction fee, their pin and their stars, with a few dollars extra.  I also ask seniors to pay for their honors regalia.  Between those initial fees, and the senior costs, I don't usually have to take too much extra to pay for ...
