I love teaching Theatre Tech to get students to appreciate what all goes on "behind the scenes" in productions. Make your class more like a STEAM class and include design, building, lighting, props, and problem solving! From how they engineered the wizard puppet in Wicked, to the magic right before your ...

I directed Steel Magnolias a few year ago, and it was an amazing experience! It was the first and only time I had done a play with only 5 girls. I also had a female stage manager, and only females to run tech. I pampered them with their own makeup kits, photo shoots, and flowers before the show. The ...

We are expanding our Theatre program at Lipscomb Academy this next year to include our younger students from PreK-5th grade. I'm so excited to bring creative dramatics to these children, but also a bit overwhelmed. Any ideas or advice on curriculum, scope and sequence, plays & musicals that have worked ...

Dear Savannah, Congrats on your new position!! My daughter taught Theatre at a Classically oriented school for one year, and I learned they are very classic literature based! Her HS play that year was Mark Twain's only play called "Is He Dead." It is a farce and very comical! I have also leaned toward ...

WE just use these in my play! We placed the mics underneath. They aren't perfect, but they sure do look better and the work! https://www.amazon.com/Jamiacy-Face_Mask-Protective-Expression-Reusable/dp/B08P5C847F/ref=sr_1_104?ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-a0049-mac00-other-nomod-us000-pcomp-feature-scomp-w ...

Interesting questions! My sister is a nurse on the front lines. She says this isn't going away, similar to the flu. Folks will continue to get this virus for years to come. Hopefully, with a Covid-Shot in the future, it should be more manageable with less deaths. When you think about how some folks continued ...

I love the Play "The Dining Room." You can do this entire play with limited characters, and do the scenes you want, or do the entire play. You can certainly cast diverse students, as the family changes over the years with every generation. AND it uses only one set for the entire show! Break a Leg! ...

Congratulations!! Teaching Theatre is so fun and rewarding! Also check out my two favorite sites, dramanotebook.Com and Drama Teacher Academy. You have to purchase both, but believe me, they are worth ever dime! I teach 5-12 Theatre, and I use these sites constantly for curriculums, games, scripts, and ...

We went ahead and scheduled every show for next year like nothing is going to change. It felt good, and we got it all on the big school calendar. I guess you can say we are extremely hopeful!! We are going to perform our spring musical in September now. (Hopefully!!) A few of our seniors are going to ...

I have loved producing some of the well written classics that have both humor and drama! Examples: Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Tom Sawyer, and Cheaper by the Dozen. A Midsummer Nights Dream has all these elements as well, in my opinion, even though it is considered a comedy! All of these ...
