Hi, Amy. We used Broadway Media's digital projections for Anastasia last month and it was an overwhelming success. It was the first time we used projections and the learning curve was not bad. Our Broadway Media reps, Gabrielle Burton and Erin Betman, were wonderful to work with and answered every question ...

Yes, you are right about the projections- the cues are labeled starting at Act 1, scene 1, not the prologue, which throws off all of Act I, and probably the page numbers for the entire script.  For example, the ghosts dancing should be scene 2 but it's listed as scene 4 in the cue list.  I only contacted ...

We are ALSO doing Anastasia!  Guess that's the show to do this year.  I agree with Lori, it's high school, so we are going to use attendants.  I figure if the train spins easily, they can stay upstage the whole time, and might actually blend in with the passengers.  We have a small hole center stage, ...

Hi. We did Phantom last year and I got my mask from Justin Longshore justinlongshore@yahoo.com  I went with the 25th version over the Crawford.  (The 25th has a larger nose and exaggerated brow, while the Crawford is subtler.)  I would go with what you want to see on stage. It may take a while ...

I have had good luck with the Eartec ultralite system as well.  I started with the four person and upgraded to the seven person pretty quickly.  I got a better deal going through Eartec than B&H. ------------------------------ [Karen] [Malone] [National Board Certified Teacher of English] IB Theatre ...

Drake makes a mini fruit pie that is a perfect size.  They're a little shiny from the iced frosting, but that easy enough to fix.  I think you can buy a family pack in Target.  I had to buy more because my cast ate them during rehearsal! ------------------------------ [Karen] [Malone] [National ...

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions about the Murphy bed in The Drowsy Chaperone.  Did you use a real bed or did you construct something?  Besides "Nightingale," is there any other advice you would offer?  Did you use roller skates for "Accident"? Thanks so much! ------------------------------ ...

Hi, Nancy. I would love a copy of your movement unit as well.  Can you reply with your email again?  There might be something wrong with the email address you provided because it won't send. Many thanks, ------------------------------ [Karen] [Malone] [National Board Certified Teacher of English] ...

Hi, George. I teach IB Theatre and several of the assessments require students to approach set design in the way you just described.  A book that would teach the process would be extremely helpful.  Please let me know when it's ready!  Thanks for all your wonderful, helpful posts and blogs. -- ...

Just got a custom system made by Rod at Bodymics.  He's terrific--so helpful and patient with people who know a lot or a little (like me!)  I highly recommend him. ------------------------------ [Karen] [Malone] [National Board Certified Teacher of English] IB Theatre Teacher ITS Advisor [Commack ...

Hi.  I know I can turn to this community for some suggestions.  Next year I will have a lot of talented females and only a few males.  It feels like every musical is "guy heavy."  We have done Little Women and Legally Blonde in the past, and I don't have much diversity in my student population.  I wanted ...

I was going to use Meier too but found a parent who was born in England and had a cockney mother.  He worked with the cast a couple of days a week individually and in groups when they weren't needed on stage. ------------------------------ Karen Malone Teacher Commack NY --------------------- ...

These are all such fantastic ideas!  I think I get the gist of the SART warm-up, but if you have more details, I would welcome those as well. ------------------------------ Karen Malone Teacher Commack NY ------------------------------

Thank you so much for the advice and (beautiful!) pictures. Did any of you use a dialect coach? If so, how did you find one and, if not, what did you do instead? Thanks again! ------------------------------ Karen Malone Teacher Commack NY

I'm directing My Fair Lady later this year and I'd love to hear your advice or tips you might have about directing the show. I could also use some advice about set designs--what did you do for Covent Garden, the ballroom scene, etc.? Thank you! ------------------------------ Karen Malone Teacher ...

It's getting to the end of the school year, and I can't let another year go by without thanking those of you who have contributed to my theatre education, which is all of you!! I was thrown into an IB Theatre class three years ago (while continuing to teach English) and started up a defunct chapter of ...

Hi, Joe. We just did Sweeney Todd in March. We did the regular version but cut the Judge's scene ourselves, which is allowed in the script. I'd be happy to talk to you more about it at length. If you want to email me, we can arrange a time to talk further and I can send you some pictures. kmalo ...

I would be very interested in this plan. It's a long way from New York, but I think it would be really valuable and I would try to make it. ------------------------------ Karen Malone Teacher Commack NY
