Show with flexibility for Improv

I am looking for a good show for high schoolers that has room for improv. My students have started an improv troupe and aren't quite show ready so we are looking for a scripted performance that also allows for improv. Any suggestions?

"Murder in the House of Horrors" was a great fit for us.  It is scripted, but has an entire section of improv where the audience participates and asks questions of the subjects (some of them on stage).

Any of Moliere's comedies can work as commedia pieces, allowing room for improvisation. We've done 'Scapin' and 'The Imaginary Invalid'. We also staged Ben Jonson's 'Volpone' in commedia style. You do have to be careful that the play you are choosing is either in the public domain or specifically allows for improvisation. ------------------------------ Michael Bergman Teacher/Director Alexandria VA ------------------------------

The Reduced Shakespeare Company scripts, including The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged, are scripted pieces, and while they might feel like much is improvised, you are bound, by the licensing agreement, to use the script as is.

Many of the recommendations, while seemingly improv-friendly are not, and adding improv will violate the licensing agreement. Make sure that whatever script you choose, there is permission to improvise or sections where improvisation is specifically permitted.

If you can or are willing to do a musical, I would HIGHLY suggest "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."  There is a lot of room for improv there.  Even get to pull audience members up on stage.  Also, as was previously mentioned, "Murder in the House of Horrors" offers A LOT of improving.
