I graduated Fairview High School in Boulder, CO in 1990. I auditioned at our state conference as an actor and received a tech scholarship to Casper College where they had a brand new facility. After only a year of school I decided to jump right in to the professional world in Denver.
During the next fifteen years, I would work as a stage manager, technical director, set designer, lighting designer, sound designer, and occasional actor or director. I would hold day jobs as necessary, sometimes in a related field, sometimes not. I worked a lot of stadium concerts for good money, and would put together light shows for local bands for no money. I even reconfigured a couple of dance clubs' lighting systems after their DJs had sequenced them incorrectly.
After taking a four or five year break from the arts to raise my kids, I decided to go back to school with the intention of teaching high school theatre. While finishing my degree, I started working at D'Evelyn Jr./Sr. HS as TD. Once I graduated, I was picked up by Golden HS in Golden, CO where I taught English and theatre for 7 years. In that time I directed three shows a year, built a Thespian troupe, and opened a brand new building.
In 2014, I started work at George Washington HS ,in Denver, where I am teaching theatre full time including IB theatre. For once I am not building a program from scratch. GW has had the benefit of great theatre teachers over the years. I consider myself lucky to follow in their footsteps.
I continue to act with a readers theatre group called One Night Stand Theatre, so-called because we perform for only one night. Generally they feature the work of local playwrights, but take submissions to our website from all over the world.
Who knows what the next chapter of my life will hold.
