The Thespian Induction Point System (TIPS) helps you keep an accurate record of students' accomplishments and progress toward earning induction into the International Thespian Society. This should be particularly helpful as troupe directors prepare for the new school year.
TIPS is built in Microsoft Excel and will work on versions 2013 and newer. Please enable macros when using the tool. Please refer to the FAQs document as a reference guide, should you have questions about the use or evolution of the tool.

COVID Induction Points Update
***
Earning induction into the International Thespian Society is even more valuable this year: It's a way for students to distinguish themselves for college and work while school productions are less frequent, virtual, or sidelined entirely because of COVID.
And while participating in shows is a traditional way to earn points, it's not the only way. Troupe directors can award points for all kinds of activities, even in virtual environments — with the guiding principle that one point is roughly equivalent to 10 hours of work, and 10 points earns induction.
Need ideas for activities? Download our handy COVID Induction Points Sheet, which contains three pages of activities in five different categories. You can also use it to track points for each student (or let them track their own) as they complete suggested projects and you identify your own.
REMEMBER:
You can consider verified hours achieved in projects outside your school, though we recommend half of a student's induction points be earned at school.
You can count points from school activities that occurred before your troupe was officially chartered.
Students can track their own points, and experienced students can mentor younger ones regarding point collection.
Half of all points earned as a Junior Thespian can transfer to high school.

handbook

Has anyone had success with tracking points in a different platform? Or does anyone have a Google sheets equivalent? Our school has moved away from MS Office products. Currently we still have a computer with excel, but I'm worried that won't be the case for much longer.

Hello,
I am using the spreadsheet but I get the following error when I go to Step 2 - Import Data to Log:
Microsoft Visual Basic
Run-time error '448':
Name argument not found
It gives me the option to abort or debug. If I select debug it shows me this:
Sub Select_Input()
'
' Select_Input Macro
'
'
Sheets("STEP 1—ENTER DATA").Select
Columns("o:o").Select
Selection.Find(What:="", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt _
:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:= _
False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
ActiveCell.Select
ActiveCell.Offset(rowOffset:=0, columnOffset:=0).Activate
ActiveCell.Select
Range("A3:" & ActiveCell.Address).Select
End Sub
I really don't want to have to start all over or create my own spreadsheet from scratch. Anyone able to help?

Hi,
When I upload new data and hit refresh on the "Report by Grad Year" Tab, only some of the names come up. Sometimes the new names will come up and then disappear like a glitch. How do I get ALL the data imported there? For some of the names, it only shows their last name instead of their full name, even though the master log shows their full name.
Thanks!

There have been a number of questions regarding passwords for the TIPS workbook.
Some password related questions are triggered by people clicking on the "Insert School Name Above" cell on the School ID worksheet. The instruction is literal--if you click on the cell ABOVE this one, you will be able to enter the relevant information and you will not be prompted for a password.
There are instructions for making corrections to the LOG sheet in the introductory video. This should be the only other time one might need a password. After reviewing the introductory video, your questions related to the LOG sheet should be answered.
If you have any other password related questions, please email me directly at bmonk@schooltheatre.org.
Thanks!

How come no one is answering the question about the password? In order to use this, it is asking for a password. What is the password, please?

How do you get the point system? I put the school's name and the chapter # but never received anything with regards to the points.

Kimberly (and others),
A common issue that I am finding is that on the "School ID" where it asks you to "Insert School Name Above" and "Insert Troupe Name Above" it literally means that you need to click into the cell above the cell with those words. If you click ON the cell WITH the words, it will prompt you for a password.
No password is necessary.

I am also getting the password prompt. How do we get it open?

I opened the spreadsheet but in order switch off the protection to enable editing I have to enter a password. Do I require a password or am I missing a step?

Hi, Joel
Recommended point awards tend to assume a standard production run of a one act or full length show -- one or two weekends. For productions with an extended life thanks to competitions, showcases, etc., you may award additional points for the additional work at your discretion. One way to do that is to calculate a rough number of hours spent on task. That is calculated at 1 Thespian point per 10 hours of quality work. Quality takes caliber of work and educational value of experience into account. Typically, that would not include travel time.

Our one act was performed at our school for a full run, won regionals, and went to state. Do our students get credit for each or do we just mark it at state. Basically should there info be entered once for school, once for regions, once for state...Or once overall?
