Bio

Since 1997, Scott has served as the Drama Director at McKendree UMC in Lawrenceville. There, he and Karen Smith worked closely together on annual touring productions with the McKendree youth. From a swing-era Godspell to a modern street-level Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Scott’s signature has been a production that is new & exciting, but still familiar and accessible.

From 2006-2012, a span of 13 productions, Scott served the Elementary Drama Department at Providence Christian Academy. For seven of those shows, he served as Assistant Director. From 2012-2015, he served as High School Drama Director, where he directed 9 productions.

During that time, Scott produced a GA Thespian of the Year-Tori Coleman (’13), and “Best Supporting Actor” at Regional One-Act Competition -Alex McIntosh (’15). Scott’s students & alumni were active in performance away from the school, well represented in local summer theatres, as well as nationally known television programs.

Scott’s been performing since 3rd grade, when he played the role of Jack Pumpkinhead in Ozma of Oz. As a theatre student at The New Hampton School (NHS), he studied under the late Van McLeod. From 1992 until his death in 2016, Van served as New Hampshire Commissioner Of The Department Of Cultural Resources under 5 gubernatorial administrations. Named “Outstanding Children’s Theatre Performer” by NHS in 1981 & 1982, Scott won that school’s Blake Samson Theatre Award upon graduation. “My teachers at NHS taught me ‘If you can’t do it on a blank stage in a black turtleneck, you’re not acting.’ So for me, teaching the craft of acting is at the core. Everything builds from the foundation of convincing performance.”

Scott’s experience includes drama, clowning, puppetry, and broadcasting. A New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters Golden Mike award winner, Scott continues to work in the field of voice-over, with clients across the country. He has trained at the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, GA and has directoed and performed for multiple Community Theatres in Gwinnett County, GA.

For a decade, Scott served as Drama Director and Bible Exploration Leader for McKendree’s VBS, bringing the Bible to life for 200 children. “It’s the most Biblically intense part of the entire VBS,” he explains. “For years, I wondered why God called a performer to ministry. The faces of those children gave me my answer.”

Scott is the driving force behind McKendree’s acclaimed Christmas productions. These adaptations of Christmas albums by Trans-Siberian Orchestra combine a drama cast, rock band, choirs, dancers and more and to tell the stories of Christmas in a whole new way. Recently, Scott formed a small community theatre troupe at McKendree: The McKendree Players.

A little personal info: For 13 and a-half years, Scott was a full time Defender of The Castle. That’s guy-speak for “At-home-Dad.” Married since 1987 to his high school sweetheart, he has one daughter, who graduated from PCA in in 2013 as class Valedictorian (and a Thespian!).
