    Hello!

I need some help... sword fight... I need to purchase 2 swords but, of course, they can't be too real/dangerous and if I buy wooden swords (and then spray paint them) they will not do the clink clink sound. Any suggestions?
    Obrigada!

Try local colleges but be careful. You need  specially tempered swords for stage combat or metal slivers can fly and swords could break. Foils from fencing work well if there is a local school. If there is a local certified stage combat specialist call them. That is how we found ours for Treasure Island. He taught us proper technique. And he choreographed fights and borrowed weapons for us from local colleges.

Rent actual stage combat swords from your local stage combat place. Get the training you need to care for and handle them. Use the three lock system, a chain of command, and always do a fight call. Teach your students to respect and care for the weaponry and you will be ok.

Cheap swords or wood can snap, splinter, and become more of a safety issue than just using the appropriate equipment. Be Safe.

What period do they have to be, or what's the play?

Do you have, or will you get, a fight choreographer?

    Hi George.
Victorian England style sword... I have already choreographed the fight. It's somewhat comedic, if that helps.
    Thanks!

Good advice above: try to find a theatrical arms supplier or possibly a college with a fencing program.

Above all, be careful. Don't let the students "go method."

And while you're not letting your students "go method" with their sword fight (good advice George! - LOL), here's a Stage Combat Agreement you're welcome to tweak to give to your students, or anyone else involved.

Break a leg!  (Not in a "method" way!)

This company specializes in swords  and weapons for the stage, especially educational theatre. They both sell and rent.

I highly recommend Richard/Weapons of Choice. He is in my community, and currently my fight choreographer/armorer for Oklahoma.  He is wonderful to work with.

I rent from Preferred Arms at the recommendation of our fight choreographer. They are super helpful and know their stuff. Highly recommend! I'm sure there are other great suppliers too.

    Hi Marta,

I echo Weapons of Choice Theatrical. https://weaponsofchoice.com/weapons/ I have rented from them and purchased swords from them for literally decades. Good, high quality equipment for any need. They're also easy to work with.

I would avoid the fencing clubs. They will not have the right type of swords for your purpose.

    Regards,

    Bob
