I was on the same hunt a few years ago. And Around the World in 80 Days was my pick...the problem was none of the scripts I found really fit my group. So I grabbed the original text and adapted it myself. I centered the story around Fogg and Detective Fix, and of course my Passepartout ended up stealing the show. The text is very limited on girls, so I actually wrote Fix's part pretty neutral so it could be played by my leading female. Then, we played the many many other parts like a small cast 39 Steps style show, (swap a jacket, slap on a mustache, and voile you're a new character!). But there are so many characters, we still had a large cast and did this! 80 Days in 55 minutes...It was a rush, but so much fun.... I did independently publish it, but don't want to come off as if I am advertising, so let me know if you want a copy and I will send you a link.

Subject: Fun historical adventure show?
Hi all,
I'm on the hunt for next year's show. The students have expressed an interest in doing something about pirates, but they'd also be open to steampunk or other fun adventure genres. I should have 15-20 students, so flexible casting and opportunities for creative staging would be great. Also swordfighting. I'd rather not do a Robin Hood adaptation since some neighboring schools have recently done them. One sticking point is that I have a student who is a Jehovah's Witness, so we can't do anything with ghosts, vampires, witches, etc. Some things I'm looking at currently include The Twelve Huntsmen, a girl-power revision of Around the World in 80 Days, and a couple versions of Treasure Island. But I'd love to hear any other thoughts!
