Bio

Joe Deer has directed or choreographed almost 200 productions across the country and internationally, from off-broadway to regional and college theatres, and is proudly a resident artist with The Human Race Theatre Co. He was founding president of the Musical Theatre Educators Alliance-International (MTEA). Joe appeared in the Broadway productions of ANYTHING GOES, THE AMERICAN DANCEMACHINE, and NYC Opera’s BRIGADOON and THE MUSIC MAN. He holds an MFA in Directing from Carnegie Mellon University and, at Wright State University, is Director of the Musical Theatre Initiative and head of the Musical Theatre Program. He is author of dozens of articles for both TEACHING THEATRE and DRAMATICS magazines, and the books, ACTING IN MUSICAL THEATRE: a comprehensive course (with Rocco Dal Vera) and DIRECTING IN MUSICAL THEATRE. Joe has been a master teacher or guest artist at many of the world's top theatre programs and gives workshops regularly for the Educational Theatre Association.
