Bio

Karen Kay (Kinkaid) Husted, (M. A. ) has been bringing the training touch to many ventures throughout her 50 years as an educator, consultant, trainer, and rancher, All of Karen's work is rooted in current research. She uses the arts to transform teaching, learning and school environment/climate. As the founding director and program manager of Arts for Border Children, Karen stresses teaching students to think creatively and critically, to cooperate, to communicate and to be problem solvers. Karen's background includes:
- Classroom teacher K - 12 for 25 years
- Artistic Director and Curriculum Coordinator for Tucson High Magnet Fine Arts Program
- Chair of Theatre Education at University of Arizona - developed the Theatre Educ. M. A.
- Teacher of general methods and arts integration and supervisor of student teachers
for the University of Phoenix
- Technical Assistance provider for AZ State Department of Education to develop arts
integration programs in schools throughout the state.
Served as AZ State Thespian Director and held the first state Thespian Conference which was attended by about 1500 students at the Old Tucson Studios.
- Developed Professional Development Seminars for the Educational Theater Association
in curriculum and assessment development
- Served as President of several Theatre Associations and National Chair of Theatre in Our Schools Month for Educational Theater Association & American Alliance of Theatre Educators
- Grant writer and fund raiser to bring funding to rural and reservation schools.
- Works to build community networks for arts integrated schools.
