Since 1991 Amy Poux has provided artistic forums to young people and professional actors in NYC and the Hudson Valley with a goal of using theater to empower those who are silenced, and restore theater as a forum for community reflection and action. As an arts-educator, Poux received a NYSCA Award of Merit and has also been recognized by the NY Times’ Neediest Fund, The US Department of Education and the Consortium of International Arts Educators, and the NYC Department of Education.
Poux is the Director of Education at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the founder of Youth Ensemble Theater (YET). YET is a pre-professional theater company dedicated to providing young people with contemporary theater experiences in professional settings such as The Ford’s Theatre in D.C., Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Bank Street Theatre in NYC, among others. She is the former Coordinator for Arts Education, Talent Development and Environmental Education at Ulster BOCES and Lead Acting Teacher for Ulster BOCES' Performing Arts Visual Arts conservatory program. In 1991, she founded Working Playground, Inc (AKA Urban Arts Partnership) which she lead for 13 years, she has created three art-based high schools, served on the NYC Board of Education Art and Design Commission, was a panelist for NYSCA, the US Department of Education, After School Corporation, Open Society Institute, The NYC Annenberg Challenge for Arts Education, The Center for Arts Education, and the Juilliard School’s Theater Arts Symposium and Festival.
Over the last 20 years, Poux has also done educational development, non-profit fundraising and organizational development in arts education organizations throughout the New York area.
