Wow, sorry you are going through this and I hope you will post the outcome of your meeting. It seems like there were some real red flags with this kid and you wanted to give him a chance....which he has blown. I would stick to my guns and only relent if directly told to do so by the admin. It might be ...

Hi all! This may be a silly answer, but when I looked under Spirit Items on the website, there are no ITS T shirts...or I couldn't find them. Is there a place to get shirts for the kids with the ITS logo? Am I just missing it? Or may we have those printed up for our troupe? My kids are adamant about ...

So sorry to hear you are having these issues! It can be so discouraging when the kids are not responding to what you are doing. I have worked in 5 different schools (due to moves) teaching Visual Arts and Theater and each time there has been an adjustment as students get used to me and the high ...

Hi Cathy, I don't give points outside of our school program unless it is over the summer and then only up to 1-5 points, depending on the role. In my thinking, ITS is a high school organization so I strive to keep it that way. It makes things very easy to understand and keep track. I like to see ...

We just did Harvey in November as well and made just a few edits. Veta's lines about sex urges, just changed to urges and the smack on Myrtle was changed a bit. We left in several places and concentrated on making it tasteful and subtle so that the audience could draw its own conclusions. We left out ...

I have a question regarding sound....and please keep in mind that I am not tech savvy! Is there an app that we could use on our ipad that would operate as a sound board? All we have is a connection to the sound board at our school so that whatever plays over the ipad, plays over the system. We don't ...

Hi everyone! I have been thrown a few curves this year in regards to casting, but we are nothing if not adaptable, right? So, I am looking at Midsummer Jersey due to some casting flexibility and doubling. I would love to hear from anyone who has done or seen this show with praise, concerns or special ...

My favorite of all time schedule rotated on different days. At first it seemed confusing, but turned out to be so good for all of the arts and many other subjects as well. It went like this.: Monday: 1st - 7th Tuesday: 1st -4th Longer periods Wednesday: 5th, 6th, 7th, 1st, 2nd Longer periods ...

We just began a lettering program this year and it is very exciting. We designed our own jacket and letter to be distinct from other school activities, but common in the colors used. It has the school letter on front with the ITS patch on the sleeves. We require ITS membership and 1) participation ...

You know, several years back, maybe 10 or so, I was asst. for a production of 10 Little Indians, and we had the script and license. When I went to look for it, I couldn't find it. It must no longer be available under that name. Or I may be very mistaken, but it was the play that we did. There is not ...

If you go the route of having them put on plain lamps, you could just find pics you like on the computer, print them and then use Modge Podge to apply. It looks really good and it is super easy. ------------------------------ Georgann Lanich Tallulah Falls GA ------------------------------ ...

I did this with Velcro and a knife with a retractable blade. Pretty much the same but the blade could be removed in front of the audience for a great effect. We padded the inside of the costume with a bit of foam rubber. It worked beautifully. ------------------------------ Georgann Lanich Tallulah ...

We did this last year! What a great show! I got a styrofoam ball and had a tech kid crunch it up for me so that it was not perfectly round and had some lumps. When he reaches for it, he formed it as he was sitting up, so that it was hidden from the audience. It was placed on stage behind a small "snow ...

Hi all! I just got word that my theater kids will be allowed to letter this year! I have to come up with a patch and letter design (I think I have something) very quickly. Also we are thinking of doing a sweater instead of a jacket. We want it to be unique and make a statement for our kids, as well ...

Thank you for telling us how you feel. I hope it makes you feel better to share it and know that you are not alone. I am in my 4th year of teaching theater. I am a Visual Arts teachers who decided to revitalize a program that had been cut. Admin liked it well enough to create classes and invest in our ...

We are looking at a new floor, or floor covering, for our stage. It is currently hardwood and gets messed up pretty badly with shows over time. The admin isn't quite ready to replace it with a floor that we can paint black yet. Do you have suggestions for a stage floor that floats or a cover that works ...

We did this last year and I have a really small theater with lights that we cannot gel or change in any way. I had a talented student dancer become "aurora" and dance to the music. She wore a great colored costume and make-up. We created a flickering effect with the lights that we have, very dim, while ...

Hi folks, I am having a bit of an issue this year and I hope some suggestions might come to mind. As of last year, my school instituted a 10th grade trip the week of our regional One Act competition. The kids are gone all week so cannot compete. Last year, I could work around this. This year, I ...

I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with Susan Zedar's play "Do Not Go Gently." I love "Mother Hicks," but I just lost a bunch of seniors (darn graduation!) and it is not a good fit right now. I have been looking at this show for a while now but have not seen it performed. If you have seen ...
