I play the old name game, which has been played by many already. I apologize to them all the while that I need to learn their names, so sit tight while we bore the socks off each other. Then I encourage them to ham it up, so no one is really bored. Name game: Everyone in a circle including teacher, ...

We just did MW in the fall and I got my pump ideas from this website. Do a search and a wonderful person posted his pictures and directions. It's really pretty easy and you'll have water without electricity. If you can't find it here, contact me and I'll get you our plans. ------------------------------ ...

I do that kind of thing all the time and no one bats an eye. I'm not going to tell a kid he can't do a part because he doesn't match the rest of the family. I just say they're just ahead of their time! ------------------------------ Katherine Miller Theater Teacher Paul VI Catholic High School ...

Yes, I've had the same problem. They are very nice, but the website seems to be clunky. ------------------------------ Katherine Miller Theater Teacher Paul VI Catholic High School Herndon VA ------------------------------

You've got to do the cigarette trick! It's really fun and very impressive looking, even though the reality is pretty mundane. I bought this little ring that was used to ignite flashpaper. You can use flashpaper, or just the little spark the flint makes (like an empty cigarette lighter will spark) might ...

I am doing the Addams Family in the spring and am tempted to use the Show Ready reheasal feature from TRW. My vocal coach is a little intimidated and fears she won't be able to use it easily. Has anyone tried this? Was it easy to use? Thanks for your input! ------------------------------------------- ...

There seems to be an epidemic. I don't know if it's just grouchy person syndrome ("In my day we had our lines memorized two weeks before auditions! And we walked to school in the snow uphill both ways!") or if there's really been a deterioration in the student work ethic. --------------------- ...

"Fifty Professional Scenes for Student Actors" by Gary Michael Kluger is divided into half dramatic plays and half comedic. Each one is 5 - 7 minutes long and they are great. I bought a classroom set years ago and I still love them.. The plots have grown up situations, but even though I teach in a fairly ...

Wow! That is small. I was feeling sorry for myself because I have one with 8, which is also pretty small. For the games, do you have study hall during the day? The reason I ask is that I sometimes get theater kids out of study hall to help out with various things during the day,, and maybe yo could ...

I take a game from my ESL teaching class. It's not original, but it's fun and breaks the ice. I have a list of questions entitled Find Someone Who and the kids go around the room finding someone who can say yes to one of the questions on the list. For example, find someone who is an only child, someone ...

Hi Everyone, I think I'm the last theater teacher on the planet to do The Miracle Worker. Does anyone have any advice on auditioning the role of Helen? I have a few ideas, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ------------------------------------------- Katherine Miller Theater ...

If you are really starting from scratch, you might want to consider folding chairs with a desk arm rather than desks or chairs. I have a wide open space that is also a dance studio, and the folding chairs make the room limitless. I have a few regular chairs, small tables, and a couch for set pieces, ...

We conclude the year with two evenings of student directed one acts on a Thursday and a Friday night. Friday night we start the shows later and have our end of the year dinner in the cafeteria beforehand. It's usually a rowdy affair because everyone is excited about the evening's performances, and I ...

When we did it years ago we had a huge number of girls for that song and one clever mom went to a Home Depot and in the plumbing department found plastic pipe elbows. They fit in their hands, they are curved like a receiver, and we painted them all funky colors. Can't remember if we put cords on them ...

I am very fortunate in that our school still requires that cell phones be left in lockers during the day. I can't imagine how you could control them. In rehearsal they may have them in their pockets on vibrate because some parents get hysterical if they can't reach their children at all times. Cell ...

We bought some used ones from a professional theater that was closing down and we've had good luck with them. We have a radio tower literally in our back yard and a McDonald's drive through a stone's throw away, so we deal with a lot of interference from those sources. We still get it, but the headsets ...
