We're doing it this April, and I was on pins and needles waiting for the superintendent's decision. They read the script and I was very clear from the get go that costumes and dancing would be tamer than the movie. They felt good with that and asked that we also provide a small disclaimer that kids under ...

I'm looking to invest in a new communication system. Right now I have 3 wired Clearcoms which are older than old. They squeal when you widen the headband to put it on or take it off your head, they're static-y, and frankly not long for this world. I would really love to get a system that is wireless, ...

I'm considering Flowers for Algernon for the Fall, but being a product of its time, there's some ugly references to the intellectually disabled as "retarded", "morons", "dummies". I want to stage the show in it's intended time period, which would certainly account for many of these outdated ideas, but ...

I have a young man who is a very accomplished performer and has worked his tail off since Freshman year. I'd very much like to pick a serious Drama for the Fall that will showcase and challenge him as the lead character his Senior year. He has had leading roles before, but they were comedic. But he has ...

I found a number of companies that do professional stage curtain cleaning and repair online. Not sure if you have a budget for this, but if you pick someone local to you it can come in less than $500. If that just won't do, would I be committing a crime to suggest covering the white paint splotches with ...

You say the students struggled with the two songs in Starcatcher and your music teacher is unsure of their readiness for a musical. But some of the shows you've suggested are very challenging musically, Into the Woods in particular. And some are a bit racy, like Hair. May I suggest a great "easy" show ...

Annie is a safe bet. Annie and Warbucks play father and adopted daughter. The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz have no romance as far as I can remember. Have you considered a show with two pairs of romantic leads and keeping the siblings in opposite pairs? Guys and Dolls for example: Could your young man ...

Hi all, I have a young lady who will be a senior next year who is a strong, soulful mezzo. She's a great actress and has worked her tush off since Freshman year. She's had meaty roles before, but not starring. I feel like it is her time. I want to pick a musical for next year that will really showcase ...

I use WIX for our website and I LOVE it. Have used Weebly before and I like WIX much much better. Very easy to use and lots of options to customize. You can really make it your own, as fancy or simple as you please. Easy for my student PR/Historian to use too. www.alhambrathespians.com ------- ...

1. How many preps do you have each day? Arguably 4. I have two Drama 1/2 classes, a combo Drama 1-8 class, one Tech Theater 1/2 class, and a combo Tech Theater 1-8 class. But overall I teach 5 classes with 1 conference period. 2. Do you teach both drama classes and technical theatre classes? Yes ...

Hi everyone, looking for some info/advice on the switchblades for 12 Angry Jurors. In the play there are two identical switchblades, both of which must be operable, and both of which must be thrust into a rubber mat imbedded in a table. How have you handled this before? Did you use real switchblades? ...

It is part of our course description that students must dedicate to working a minimum of 1 show per semester outside of classroom hours. I reiterate this heavily in my syllabus and parent/student contract. However I also state that just like sports, you need to be academically eligible (GPA is 2.0 or ...

Very easy to use. We made a whole bunch of teeth and horns with moldable plastic pelletrs for our haunted house last year. They take to alcohol activated paints very well. Haven't used them for anything other than SFX makeups yet, though. https://www.amazon.com/Thermomorph-Moldable-Plastic-Pellet ...

Hi there! I was in your boat fairly recently. If you can, try to get someone to show you the basics of lighting, sound, and power tools hands on. I've been spoiled in that I have a few friends who have professional experience and were willing to tutor me in exchange for adoration and pizza. Are there ...
