MTI has an approved list of lyric changes to make it cleaner! My administration only made me remove the one b**** m. We've gotten content complaints in the past, but not a single one with Bring It On! ------------------------------ Brooke Jackson Lexington KY ------------------------------

If you are just starting a musical program, I would do something with serious community buy in! Get people in the door to support and make some money. Musicals are a lot more expensive than straight plays, so picking something the public knows will help you be able to pay for another one next year! I ...

I am looking for costumes for Beauty and the Beast going up in December. We would be willing to rent or buy! We are located in Lexington KY, but obviously would be willing to ship. If you happen to have a set still and live close, we would be interested in talking about renting or buying that as well. ...

Our department has had more than one teacher for years. Right now we are a two person department, but it has been three in the past! There is no formula for how we split up the shows though. We are very good friends and we just see who can do what when. Usually one of us is the director while the other ...

We just did Bring It On: The Musical. It was so much fun! We had huge crowds and were able to get a whole new group of kids involved in our program. This has opened doors for our future seasons! If you are interested in doing the show-- I highly recommend!  The costumes can get kind of expensive for ...

We're doing Bring It On and it has an incredibly diverse cast! We have love having traditional, jazz, rap, and hip hop on the stage! Check out It's All Happening- that's my kids favorite number in the show! If you're looking for a small number, We Ain't No Cheerleaders is cute too!!  When we did High ...

A lot of companies have an approved list of changes for high school! We are doing Bring It On. While we didn't really have to make any changes they did have quite a long list of word substitutions! ------------------------------ Brooke Jackson ------------------------------

I would suggest trying out a Jr. production. They are so wonderful! They come with accompaniment CDs, choreography DVDs, suggestions for easy set design, prop lists, they simplify harmonies (3 instead of 4 or 5 parts)...etc. It is a great transition from play to musical. Full musicals are a crazy undertaking. ...

Bring It On has SO many girls. The guys parts aren't demanding with singing. They mostly have to know how to speak in rhythm but it's not too difficult. My kids are loving it. Once Upon a Mattress and Little Mermaid have room for many women to play traditionally male roles. Xanadu is also heavily ...

I am teaching a musical theatre course for the first time next year. We will have a range of students- some that have been doing musical theatre their entire lives and some that will do it for the first time! I know second semester we will do some project based learning and do a Jr or School Edition ...

Once Upon a Mattress- the prince and the knight sing a little but that is it. The king is mute. All the other characters can be female! Legally Blonde Jr- Warner sings a tiny bit and Emmett sings. Callahan and Kyle do not sing. Everyone else is a girl. Xanadu Jr- if memory serves correctly, there ...

We are looking to buy or rent male cheerleading costumes for our production of Bring it On. The squad is red, black, and white. I want authentic looking uniforms. Let me know if you have these. If your school is those colors and has a co-ed squad, if you could mention it to your coach, that would be ...

We are doing Bring it On now! It's been nice to have few male singing parts! Here is one big song for a guy- everything else is speak sing. However you need an ethnically diverse cast. Also we did legally blonde Jr a few years back. Emmett and Warner still sing, but the songs are MUCH shorter and ...

Could I get a disenchanted school edition too?! I have always loved the idea of that show but thought it a little racy for high school kids! I didn't know there was a school edition! ------------------------------ Brooke Jackson ------------------------------

Once Upon a Mattress might work for you! Many of the male characters could be played by females! The king is silent and the knight is gone for a majority of the play! Also- The Little Mermaid Jr can be very female heavy! Sebastian, scuttle, and flounder can all be girls. Triton and Grimsby do not ...

As a director, I used to wonder this same thing. I wanted to do the show so bad. However, once I was cast in an extended cast of Into then Woods, I would warn against it. We probably won't ever do it at my school because of it. I actually got to play Snow White, so I had one line. I was also one of two ...

Big Fish would be great with the kids you're talking about! You might have to get creative with the set- but I think you could mostly do minimal set- and let props be your friend. Or you could consider using projections. We have used them twice (Elf Jr and Mary Poppins). They were great!! And I know ...

We have done it several different ways. The only time we double cast a straight play is if it is a class play. In class we want to give everyone an opportunity-- and have to since it's a class and they are getting a grade for performing. This usually gives some of or younger or more inexperienced kids ...
