Congratulations with having someone so interesting to teach. "Getting rid" of an accent I equate to teaching an accent. I would go with the idea you don't want to fix the way your student currently speaks but you want to give him more control over his voice. Not being there it is incredibly hard ...

I have completed my first year in the program. It is a great well rounded program for theatre educators. Classes in voice, acting, acting styles, scenic design, dramaturgy, directing, lights and costuming, and that is just the first two years. Very long days with great students (cohorts of 12 from ...

I have not done that program, but I was accepted to it last year when I decided to go back to college. It looks like a great program and the area is beautiful. The only down sides I found was having to live with my mother for a month (just kidding) and it seemed to focus very heavy on stagecraft classes. ...

I am going to approach this from a different angle. For better or worse most of us teach at High School or lower schools. I am constantly reminding myself my students are minors, mostly. It is the principles responsibility to ensure the community standards are upheld. If they are broken it ...

Jennifer: I wasn't going to reply to this post, currently herding cats while juggling fire torches, but I thought you should hear another voice about your current situation. I currently teach at one of the schools you wish you were at, and at times it is very nice. I work at a good school, ...

I agree with George. It is not about how much you can put on the stage, it is about how much you can take away. What is really needed to tell the story. If you must have some sort of backing to tell the story, you might try Periaktoi on wheels. An example can be found here: How we made our Periaktois ...

For a great app for controlling sound FX Live 2 is great, you can play many sounds at once, very easy to use. For controlling the levels of there sound board, depends on the model of the board you have. Some of the newer models have apps that let you adjust levels from an app. ------------------------------ ...

I share your concerns though I will probably not be nearly as eloquent as you are about it. For some time I have been mentally considering the fact my students do not enjoy or maybe grasp the classics as much as I think they should. Recently we have been working on the Scottish play and Rosencrantz ...

Our district uses the same letter for all, with small patches denoting what the letter was earned in, IE masks for theatre. Our district does 10 points for Thespians, 30 points for letter, with one competition and three other plays, 45 points and B average for honor cords at graduation. Hope ...

Not sure what you mean by politics, but are other factors involved with the casting process other than the audition, then very much so yes. I have cast people, in high school and professionally, because of many different items, some of which include: Height, ie too short or too tall, attitude, past ...

My opinion, your mileage may vary: One of the keys to becoming a great performer is experience. Those experiences are gained over time, and I feel they include the High School experience. Rushing off to college IMO would rob some of those experiences others would gain, both good and bad. I ...

Allison: If they are SPED or 504, look at each student's IEP, the accommodations should be listed. If they are ESL, English Second Language learners, there are different strategies to help get them writing but depending on the level makes a difference on how or what is required, also they could ...

I can confirm there is at least one other with the same problem, and that one would be me. I don't think this is going to help you sleep. Your mileage may vary: It has been my limited experience that casting in educational theatre, at least in my school, is at best a crap shoot. I let my students know ...

Thanks for sharing, and congrats on the new job. Many of us forget, me included, this is educational theatre. We as teachers try to do it all, and for a musical or any major play we cant. I find the hardest thing is to step back and let the students take some control. I started with a book ...
