I completely agree! It always takes so long and why not share? There is so much vision to make each piece original and the basic scene breakdowns for rehersal purposes always take time away from the million other things ! :) ------------------------------ Natasha Hart Montreal QC

Hi all, I was just wondering if any of you have a scene breakdown with characters per scene for the Lion King Jr . That you are willing to share. And or a costume /prop list. I'm happy to share from any of my shows :). Natasha Sent from my iPhone

Move yourself - similar to musical chairs . You only take one chair away . Everyone sits in a circle. The person without a chair has to get in the middle of the circle and say something true about themselves " I have been to Europe" if this is true for you, you must get up and move to another seat. If ...

Thank you all for your responses. I realize that I was a little misunderstood in my reason for posting (my fault) and I would like to clarify what my major issue was. My title should have been phrased differently- perhaps: what happens at your school if an actor is sick or doesn't come to school on show ...

Hello all, As we all know, putting off a play is a tremendous amount of work. An actor needs an immense amount of energy to perform and there is such an adrenaline high , and inevitable crash, that sleep is sometimes hard to attain after a late performance. I told my kids that after each even performance ...

We have a catwalk for our FOH lights. We have bought a clamp to secure the projector on there. That way, actors can walk freely and the images are going above their heads. Obviously, they can't stand directly in front of the flat the image is being projected on, but otherwise, it allows for more freedom. ...

I am curious about the same thing! I think the EDTA conference is amazing and I recommend going. I've gone five times and have never been disappointed. ( and I've sent new drama teachers there too and they loved it). I am personally looking for a workshop between now and March. Anyone know of one? ...

We are actually doing rare screen projection this year. From everything I researched, I needed at least 10 feet behind the backdrop and I don't have that kind of space to play with. So I bought black scrim and am stretching it on frames so that I have two black panels. We are using one projector to cover ...

There are a lot of great ideas here. I appreciate the time you all took to reply. I love the idea of a documentary and there are also a lot of inclusive practices here. Some of them I am currently doing ( cast and crew parties, eating together, everyone in the program, having the crew bow after the lead ...

Hi all, I feel that I could be doing a better job with integrating my cast and crew so that they feel like a whole team rather than two separate interdependent teams. My stage manager and student director attend all rehearsals, but I work at a very busy school where students are heavily involved in ...

Hi all, I am taking my students to NYC in March and am finalizing a few details. I need suggestion for a good acting workshop. So far my tour company has suggested a stage combat workshop (which I am not interested in as we just did one here) and a 2-hour talk on the ins and outs of the business. I ...

First of all, I think it's really cool of your admin to keep a course with only two students! Awesome! Now what to do with them... 1. Can you take them off campus? If not, this will still work with a homework component. In script writing, I have students go to a cafe for homework. Their task is to ...

Hello from Montreal, This is a great question. Are you a French language school? I teach at a bilingual English school with different streams of French for students who speak French as a second or third language and for native speakers. Last year, the French department started a One Act Play festival. ...

Hi all, I have been teaching theatre for ten years and like to shake things up and keep it fresh for me (and by extension my students). At the beginning of grade 9, I start with a group dynamics unit where I teach students how to really work together, collaborate respectfully and creatively, create ...

My most advanced theatre class is centred around interpretative movement , writing monologues, writing children's theatre based on art work our grade 3s paint to inspire us, and subsequently performing for them, and finally an intensive acting for film unit where our black box becomes a proper film studio. ...

War by Dennis Foon is excellent for stage combat. The play explores four teens who are trying to become men. ------------------------------------------- Natasha Hart -------------------------------------------

Almost, Maine has a great male gay scene. The play explores love from various perspectives and can be both funny and poignant . However, it is for a max of 19 actors. Alternatively, why not adapt a play by switching the gender so that a same-sex relationship works? It's an interesting request to search ...

Hi all, We are a laptop school and are introducing iPads next year for a pilot project. I am looking for apps that would be installed on students' iPads that would be useful in theatre class. Any ideas? I am also interested in apps that would be useful to the theatre teacher (me) as well as apps that ...
