The online webinar that EdTA put together was great. It centered me along the lines of storytelling. -- Ted Curry MSODDirector of Performing Arts, Drama Director and FacultySt. Ignatius College Preparatory 2001 37th Avenue San Francisco, CA 94116

I, of course, have the same problem.  I double cast and sometimes triple cast to give more people the opportunity.  I do not rotate - I cast who is best of the role.  I never want to put anyone on stage who can't handle the role.  Life lesson - not everyone gets what they want.   I often times have leads ...

Our Wagon was a forced perspective platform that was lifted and placed on regular casters.  The unit was covered in black fabric then several hula skirts.  We covered her with a tiki beach umbrella.  The Wagon wheels where simply attached to the sided of the platform.  With all the hay and the dark lighting ...

We just closed Legally Blonde and we do not have a fly space.   We did sets that were more representational.  Used allot of furniture.  We do have a nice budget - but I know the show can be done (set wise) rather simply.  The costumes where our bigger expense.  We had a great time doing the show.   ...

What are your typical rehearsal start and end times for high school troupes on mainstage productions? School gets out at 2:30 so we start at 2:45.  We rehearsal for Plays 3 days a week and for musical 5 days a week.  We rehearse until 6:00 because school bus leave at 6:00 (5:55 for those taking ...

I asked my TD and here is what he said  - don't know if this helps Without knowing what the proscenium is made of or how big it is, I'm guessing it must be light enough for two people to carry and hold it up. A search on Amazon for "battery operated ball lights" cam up with some LED christmas lights ...

We did Chicago a few years ago and what I heard most from the admin was they were worried about the costumes - they had the Broadway revival in their mind - so we were mindful of the costumes  - ensemble we dressed as men, Merry Murderess we dressed in period dresses -  and had zero push back.  The show ...

I have only double and sometimes triple cast my productions and have been doing this for 20 years.  I do not use understudies - if they are good enough to understudy the part they are good enough to share the part.  Understudy system sets up another clique level and in high school that is the last thing ...

We did an open set. We had four very large pillars that stayed on stage and moved to various parts of the stage to create different looks. We also had two set pieces (6'x2') that had generic English town on one side (double doors & windows) and library on other (double door entry to library - book wall ...
