This is such a neat idea. I don't think there is a single play that I've seen more productions of than Macbeth. I've seen everything from one-man versions to a production done with tiny ninja action figures, and yet I've never seen it gender-flipped! I say go for it! ------------------------------ ...

I can't speak to your exact question, but (if you haven't already done this) see if you can think of anybody you actually know who works at a school and could put you in contact with a drama teacher, or even possibly an English teacher. You could reach out and ask if they might be willing to do a little ...

Would a workshop like this be helpful? https://www.echotheatercompany.com/playwrights-studio/ Another option, and something that my collaborator and I did with our show a couple times as we were developing it, was to find a director and cast (largely made up of friends, acquaintances, and friends-of-friends) ...

Thanks, Susan! I can totally understand your interest in intermission-less shows, but this one is really built as two acts. I think you could technically do it without an intermission, but it would be a pretty long sit for the audience (it usually goes at least two hours). ------------------------------ ...

I think these are some good suggestions, and I second those who say it doesn't hurt to ask the licensing company if you can make some changes to any problematic language. My musical "Sympathy Jones" is pretty clean already, but sometimes schools contact us about swapping out a few mild swear words or ...

A female Jesus in Godspell sounds like a lovely idea, and feels like it's keeping with the spirit of the show, which has always been a playground for more experimental staging concepts. There probably will be a few people who don't love the idea, but I bet they'll be 'won over' when they actually see ...

Is this the book you're referring to? It looks like there's an eBook version you can get: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/the-actors-workbook-9781472531803/ Or if this is what you're talking about, there's a Kindle version: https://www.amazon.com/Young-Actors-Workbook-Effective-actors/dp/1983166162 ...

I agree with much of what Kenneth Buswell said. Also, I suspect that it's more of an issue right now than it might have been even just five years ago because of the rise of hate crimes and racist rhetoric in recent years. Everything from the prevalence of viral videos revealing appalling klan-level hatred ...

What a cool idea! As someone who really benefited from playwriting contests in high school, it's great to see an opportunity like this for young aspiring musical theater songwriters. ------------------------------ Brooke Pierce Co-author of the "spy musical" Sympathy Jones, licensed by Playscripts, ...

Have you checked out this site? https://www.batteryjunction.com. I can't speak from personal experience yet, but I was just doing a search for a particular battery I need to replace the other day and came across it. I'm not very familiar with the show myself, but I think "Nunsense" might meet those requirements. You may also be interested in, "Sympathy Jones". It can be performed with a cast of 10 (with some doubling) and has several female leads. Though some of the other characters are male, earlier this year ...

I can't speak from the point of view of taking a group on tour, but just in terms of available theatrical/cultural experiences, San Francisco and Minneapolis might be other interesting options stateside. Or if you're able to do the trip in August, it could be neat to take them to Edinburgh during the ...

Chicago sounds like it could be really risky for a conservative audience. Not only is there a lotta bad stuff going down, but the characters aren't even very apologetic about it! ;) I liked the idea of Little Women that another poster mentioned. If you'd like something somewhere in between, though, ...

It's been a very long time since I've listened to it, but I wonder if there's anything you could use from the "Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk" cast recording? I remember loving that album when it came out. Admittedly it was more of a showcase for tap, but you still might want to give it a listen ...

Hi Denise, I lived very close to NKU and many of my classmates went there, so I think it's really cool that they have such a good theater program! I think it may have still been developing when I lived there, so I never saw any NKU productions (I saw quite a bit over the river at CCM), but it looks ...

There are so many great programs out there, but just want to point out a special advantage of my own alma mater, NYU (I went for Dramatic Writing, not Musical Theatre), which is that your campus is New York City itself. Coming from Kentucky, that was a very welcome and glorious change of pace for ...

Beautiful tribute, thank you for sharing this. It's amazing how every generation seems to feel this loss - we all have our favorite memories of him. My Robin Williams favorites are Mrs. Doubtfire and The Birdcage, two movies that I can watch over and over and always make me laugh. -------------- ...
