As my group works on the spring show "Grease," we are having problems locating costumes that work. Party City has Pink Lady jackets, but they are one-size-fits-most and made of very cheap material that's easy to snag. I foresee these being ripped in practice. Party City also has "leather" jackets for ...

Love the practices listed here. We do our big circle and on the different nights and I talk about the type of crowd to expect (Friday - lively and will laugh at any and everything - things the cast never found funny; Saturday - still lively but not as intense as Friday; Sunday - quiet, not responsive), ...

Wow ... thank you all for the discussion provided here. Hugh - thank you for your input. You're right, I have been avoiding shows where I cannot fulfill due to lack of diversity. It's my school, not the program. I'm actually the most diverse group in my little school of 366 with three of the five ...

I tell students to prepare one minute of a song to sing acapella. However, if a student wants to contend for a major part in the show, he or she should prepare a song that the character sings. MY vocal director and I take notes bout each auditioner. We rate them on the following: Loudness Musicality ...

Lynn, I just completed my second production of the full show. I did it as my introduction show to the high school in December 2011 and wrapped it up last weekend here in November 2015. I'll do it every five years so all kids have a chance to act in it. E-mail me with any questions. I can send you ...

Hi community. As my drama program continues to grow, I'm excited for all the possibilities. One thing that has me stymied is this - there are many great shows that require students of color but my school is seriously lacking in that area. We have 366 students in grades 9 - 12. The kid would ...

Last year I produced The Music Man and had great success, as well as sparking a desire to do drama with elementary students. This spring is Grease - have any of you worked in some elementary school students? I have about five who I want to bring back, but I also want to make it worth their time. ...

I want to apologize right off - I have a few posts to make where I need help and advice. I'm sorry to blow up the feed. I have several parents who are coming to me about lettering in drama. Do any of you do this? I'm trying to get the lettering information worked out, but I'm shaky. Luckily, ...

Jordanne, I'm at a small school, 366 high school kids. I totally feel your situation. I'm doing something totally new this year. So many groups sell food, wrapping paper, etc. This year, I'm doing sock hats / beanie hats with scarf option. We're selling them in November for delivery in December ...

A few years ago I produced The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood from Dramatic Publishing. My strongest actor was a female. So, I thought ... why not gender bend this show. It was one of the most hysterical shows ever! Lady Marian and her assistant were guys, the king was a woman, all of the merry men ...

Like the others, I, too, am sorry about all of this. You're on the right track by keeping everything that's sent to you. Like others have said, let your principal know, but I'd go one step farther and let your superintendent know. I had a parent go over me, over my principal, and straight to the ...

The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is another great show with a large cast and is hysterical. The first time I read the script I was laughing out loud. You can gender bend in this, too. There's audience interaction with the possibility of improve if you have a lively crowd. This show was so popular, ...

Thank you for the insight and things to consider, especially you, Hugh. I had blinders on because I was upset how things went down. I know I was trying to make an example, and this young lady and I had all of our communication privately. Ultimately, the reason I said she could not be involved is a ...

The drama students (play and musical) follow the same rules as athletics. If you are more than 15 minutes late to school, you don't go to practice the next day or be in the show. This seems extreme to me, but there was a case where sports players would sleep in the first half of the day after games. ...

Hi all. This year I found myself in a unique situation. Five weeks before we were to produce our spring musical The Music Man, my Marian quit the show. She had a list of reasons why. This week as we're on spring break, she showed up and wanted to help with building set and painting the set. I told ...
